'I'd like to see my wife,' he says to the room, raising from his seat and walking to the door to leave Oval, 'reschedule everything for later.'
He has no idea where she is right now; all he knows is that he wants to be with her. His feet are moving towards her office on their own accord. It's as if his heart senses her presence; it can feel her.
While his SSAs confirmed that "Capri is in the office", they could tell he wasn't there, the President was lost in his own world, consumed by his own thoughts and feelings.
It's the first time those horrid messages have been made public, and it's only brought back memories of a time his family has moved on from.
Back when Hunter was battling addiction, the entire family had suffered so much. The fear of losing yet another child was eating away at him during those many sleepless nights. While his upbeat personality had helped him, for Jill it was even more difficult because Hunter's addiction had reawakened some of her own demons. There were days when he felt helpless to protect her from it all, so he just held her tight and loved her, as he wants to do now...
He's finally made it to the East Wing. On her assistant's desk he recognizes the same newspaper that was presented to him just a few minutes ago. He lets out a deep sigh that he wasn't aware he was holding.
Everyone remained in place as the President opened the door to the First Lady's office.
The room was dark, the morning sunlight obscured by thick grey clouds. There she is, standing by the window with her back to the door, dressed in her yellow dress, larger than life and shining brighter than the day outside. On rare occasions, he wonders if her life would have been easier if she hadn't married him, but he knows that life without her would have been no life at all.
Sometimes he wishes he could protect her from everything bad but he knows that is not possible. So, he simply loves her with all his heart and soul, with every fiber of his being. His Jill is strong, stronger than him if you ask him, but he can't help but become enraged whenever anyone even thinks of wronging her. If anyone tries to hurt her in any way, God help them because she is his life and his love.He walks in and shuts the door behind him.
She remains unmoved. She knows it's him, and it will always be him. In the midst of her rage, she can't help but smile because she knows she can always count on Joe to be there for her.
They are all better now as a family, and they have grown closer. Hunt's addiction made them stronger as a couple.
He wraps his arms around her, his hands all over her body, his face nestled in her neck, planting small kisses there, breathing her in, filling his lungs with the essence of her.
'You know, I always thought flowers would be the most fragrant of things, but then I discovered your skin,' he says, sucking on her neck, careful not to leave a mark.
And she laughs, truly laughs, and his heart leaps.
'You're such a romantic man, Joseph Biden,' she says, turning in his arms and wrapping her arms around his neck, caressing his hair.
He looks at her with love in his eyes, a love he sees reflected in hers. He starts playing with her golden locks with his left hand while whispering to her ear a song of theirs, rocking slowly with her in his arms.
'Have I told you lately that I love you, Have I told you there's no one else above you,' and he laughs at her chuckle.'You fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness,' she joins him in singing the next verse. 'Ease my troubles, that's what you do,' she whispers, bringing his face so close to hers that their noses and mouths are touching, breathing the same air.
'I love you. I love you so much!' she exclaims as she kisses him. He kisses her back passionately, his mouth devouring her mouth, his tongue caressing her tongue, their hearts beating in unison.
After a few moments, he ends the kiss with a nibble on her lower lip and asks, their foreheads touching, 'Honey, are you okay?'
'I'm fine,' she says with a wink, looking him in the eyes and caressing his face. 'I know my son, Joe. I've been by his side his entire life. I know his dreams, his fears, how he thinks, and what he wants to say even when he doesn't say anything at all. I know his heart.' While caressing his head and nuzzling his nose with hers, she says, 'I just got angry there for a second. I've had enough of them portraying our son as the worst human being, which is far from the truth,' she sighs, 'but I am feeling better now that you're here with me.'
'Always, baby,' he says, planting a kiss on her brow while his hands wander over her back. She beams. She is about to kiss him again when her phone pings, signaling a message. She steps out of his arms, her safe cocoon, to check her phone, signaling him with her finger to give her one minute. Joe sits on one of her office chairs, watching her every move as she goes to get her phone from her desk.
"Mom, I love you! I adore you, Mom! You are everything to us. Xo Hunter, your son."
Joe notices her eyes light up as she begins typing a response.
'Who is it, baby?' He asks, smiling, having a hunch it might be their son.
She walks over to him and sits on his lap, showing him the message.
'That's our son,' he says, looking her in the eyes, hypnotized by her smile.
She tucks her hands behind his neck and curls up in his arms.
'I love my boys,' she says, planting a kiss on his cheek while his hands caress her gorgeous legs.
'Nothing can hurt me as long as I have you, our family,' she says as she lifts her face to meet his gaze, 'We won't let them deter or intimidate us, Joe. What you're doing is very important for this country; true Americans believe in it, and I believe in you.' She clutches his face in both her hands, her gaze fixed on him. 'We are doing this, Mr. President!'
He nods and hugs her tightly, saying, 'You have my word as a Biden, my love.'Later, as he exits her office, taking one last look at her, he notices the sun emerging from its hiding place. They will be just fine.
He blows her one last kiss, which she returns, before closing the door and returning to work. He makes one last call on his way to Oval before doing so....
When Jill returns to her office after lunch, she finds several vases filled with gorgeous flowers from their gardens, filling the space with their beautiful colors and aromas.
She can't stop smiling, her heart racing at the thought of her Joe doing this for her. She is looking around the office, admiring the lovely flowers.
She finds a card on her desk, opens it, and reads it aloud:
"There's a love that's divine,
And it's yours and it's mine"See you tonight, baby, at the same time and place. Joe x
