"Louis! For god sake would you just drop it! You are not going in and that is final." I tried to keep my voice under control as I turned toward the member of my team.
He stormed out of the room with out saying another word. I rubbed my face with my hands and let out a loud sigh as the sound of the door slamming echoed through out the room. I slumped into the chair across from my desk, leaning back and shutting my eye lids.
I opened them a few minutes later as the door opened once again.
"I'm just trying to do what's best Zayn." I said before the tanned skin man leaing against the door frame could speak.
"I know. He knows that too, he is just frustrated that you won't let him go. If anything happened to Harry.." Zayn trailed off leaving the sentence unfinished.
Two months ago we had discovered an illegal sex industry operating in the middle of London. We had been watching it for weeks before I sent one of my team, Harry Styles in, disguised as a guard to see what he could find.
That was a week and a half ago and we had not heard from him since.
I told him I would give him two weeks, tops, and then if we had not heard from him, someone else would go in. That someone being me. Louis Tomlinson the oldest member of our team had been argueing with me for days saying that he should be the one going in.
Louis was great at his job but I couldn't risk him blowing our cover if he saw that Harry was hurt. They were the closest out of all of us and I didn't want that to cloud his judgement. He wasn't the wisest person at times, especially if he thought one of his best friends was in danger.
"Can you talk to him? Make him understand?" I said rubbing my fingers against my temple as if it would some how magically get rid of my pounding head ache.
"Get some rest Li. You look like you need it." Zayn said before stepping out of the room and closing the door.
Before taking his advice I stood up and walked over to the far wall where maps, grids and pictures of men we suspected of being involved in this illegal activity had been pinned up for easy obervation. I tried to study the maps but the pounding in my head got worse as I continued staring.
Eventaully the arrows and the lines connecting to different things became blurry in front of me and I gave up trying to make sense of it all.
I made my way to the couch that had been temporily placed in my office and pulled the blanket of the back of it. I say temporarily but it had never been moved since it had I had asked for it to be put in. When I was focused on cases like this I rarely had time to go home and sleep in a real bed.
What was the point of going home anyway? There is never anyone to greet me when I come back from work. Just an empty house.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up to a hand shaking my shoulder and my eyes shot open to reveal Zayn standing beside my make shift bed. I groaned and contemplated going back to sleep but I knew there was a lot to organize today, so I sat up and rubbed my hands across my face trying to wake my self up.
"You should really get some proper sleep. In a bed." Zayn spoke from beside me.
I grunted at him and rose from the couch letting my blanket fall to the ground. I stretched, listening in satisfaction as i heard the cracking of my joints, before going to my door and moving down the hallway to a lounge like room, where there was coffee, lots of coffee. Exactly what I need.
Louis was sat at the table and he stiffened when he saw me but I ignored him and made a bee line for the coffee maker. I would deal with him later. He was probably going to give me the silent treatment all day anyway.
I poured my self a cup of the hot beverage and sighed in contentment as the liquid hit my tongue.
I turned back around to face the two members of my team and saw Zayn whispering fervently to Louis but he stopped abruptly when he saw me looking. I frowned but decided to ignore it and sipped at my drink wrapping my hand around the warm cup.
After a few minutes of awkward silence Louis gathered up his things and left the room. I stared at his retreating back but didn't say a word.
Zayn's exasperated sigh brought my attention back to him.
"What?" I said walking over and taking Louis' place at the table.
"You need to sort things out with him."
"I don't need to sort anything out with him Zayn, I gave him a direct order and if he chooses to sulk about it that's his fault." I snapped.
"You know he's just worried about Harry." Zayn said quitely.
"And you don't think I am? I didn't want to let Harry go in by himself as much as you and Louis did, but I had no choice. You know I would blame myself entirely if anything happened to Harry!" I replied letting out a breathe. "But I am not going to let Louis ruin our cover by charging in there, all right? I am getting tired of you two argueing with me about this. So Just drop it. I am going in tomorrow night, not Louis, not you, ME."
I stood up from my chair too quickly making it fall over but I didn't care. Zayn looked at me with wide eyes but I scowled at him and stormed out of the room slamming the door behind me.
I got to my office and sunk into my chair, leaning my elbows on my desk and put my head in my hands.
Breathe Liam, breathe.
I sighed. I shouldn't have shouted at Zayn but my short temper had gotten the better of me. Sometimes I wished I wasn't in the postion I'm in now, I wished I didn't have this weight on my shoulders every time we had to do a mission.
I rubbed my hands over my buzz cut and then pulled away and opened a drawer beside my desk, pulling out a map of the building I would be going in tomorrow. I had to have every inch of it memorized.
