Peace, finally peace. The roar of cold wind shuts the world away, isolating down to this feeling. Nothing matters, anymore, so nothing will matter when this is over. I want to enjoy these last moments, though I don't think I will remember anything, and the stars are so beautiful.

A soft smile curls my lips as the twinkling far off lights get blocked by the tower rushing over my sight. The wind's silence breaks as I speed towards the ground and the Parisian nightlife brings my moment of peace to an end. Bluebell eyes close tightly to try and recapture that moment, even as I'm sure I won't have anymore moments left. Funny how, even now, my brain thinks it matters.

I had been watching her for some time, not sure why she was out so late on such a cold night. My curiosity had me crouched on a railing with my baton in hand, thankfully, and I had been intently watching the girl I love pace along the top of the Eiffel Tower. When the girl who's smile lights a room, the girl who's kindness inspires everyone else, the girl who's heart enthralls all who meet her. When that girl starts to fall, I move without a thought.

Silver baton extending under me, just as it has hundreds of times before, doesn't feel fast enough. I won't make it, I won't make it, I won't make it. Please. Please! PLEASE! MAKE IT!

Wind tears through blond hair and speed makes green cat eyes water heavily. My leather belt tail whips violently behind me as I cut fast towards the descending form. Even with all of my speed, I can't... If only I could send myself a little faster. My legs move without command and I leap off the baton just as she starts to fall past me. Arms outstretched, I collide with her and we both go flying.

My body curls around her petite body protectively while my suit absorbs a majority of the impact against the asphalt stairs and the skid until both of us still on the ground. Steamed air begins to cloud around from my heavy breaths, making everything around us a little hazy. Luckily the park seems to be empty where we landed and so no prying eyes.

Just as it dawns on me that I just saved Marinette Du Pain-Cheng, her very own sobs startle me so badly that I drop my hold on her. She doesn't lean away but instead presses closer, her freckled face hiding from the world against my black clad chest. Instinctively, I once again wrap her in my arms but this time I pull her close to simply hold. The violent tremors shake her against me and my desire to comfort her bringing purring rumbles forth, a currently very welcome feature of being a magical cat superhero.

"Sh, sh, Marinette. I'm here. I've got you." I can't help but feel how small she is, when did she get so small. Marinette had always felt so big to me before, like she could do anything at all. She was my own personal Ladybug, but now she needs me. "Don't worry, I've got you."

Once her shaking dies down to just trembling in my arms, I stand and lift her with me. My, still extended, baton rests on the ground near us and I go to it. Using my boot to shrink it back down and then I kick the weapon up into my hand expertly. Marinette's arms have secured in a vice grip around my neck, her face hidden still. She doesn't say anything as I vault us back to her balcony, nor does she protest as I pull her onto my lap in a covered chaise near the railing.

Only when I have her wrapped in my arms and her tears stop, do I dare ask "What happened?"
