There were no words to describe the feeling Dex had felt when his boyfriend proposed. It was- magical- picturesque- perfect in every way. He looked down at his fiance- now asleep in his lap after a long night of before-the-wedding parties. They had been fun- but Dex was ready for the real thing. He grinned- his dimples every present as it sunk in. Tomorrow was going to be the BIGGEST day of his entire life- and he would have his true love beside him the whole way.
"Do you- Fitz Vacker, take this elf as your husband- through war and love?" Wylie- the newly promoted officiator. "I do." said the Vacker- beaming.
"Then Dex Vack-" began Wylie.
"NO!" yelled Fitz- suddenly
Dex stared at him in horror- heartbroken.
Wylie cleared his throat. "Excuse me Mr. Vacker?"
Fitz took a deep breath- and looked at Dex- then at the confused crowd.
"Dex Dizznee. You are the love of my life. You are the reason I get up every morning. You have been there for me, through high and low." he paused- and took Dex's hand. "But... we weren't always like this. Growing up- some misguided people- taught me that I was quote on quote: better- because of my heritage. Could you imagine? Not being able to love- because of your last name. And back then- I was a misguided- fraudulent- angry jerk." He now glanced at Sophie- and she nodded, forgiving him. "It- it wasn't right. Just because I was a Vacker- I was given privilege." syas it with so much sorrow- it's heartbreaking.
He turned to Dex, cupping both hands. "I love you- my darling. More than all in the world that I have been given. And- so- I renounce my last name. Dex Dizznee- I love you forever."
Dex gasped- eyes wide. "I-" he burst into happy tears.
"I do as well." he said- grinning from ear to ear.
"You may now-" tried poor Wylie- but the 2 elves were already locked in a perfect- deep kiss.
"I love you forever."
Dex stood in front of the teal tree with tears streaming down his face- a simple bottle of lushberry juice at his side.
Here sleeps Fitzroy Avery Dizznee- loved husband- protector- rebel- and councilour
Dex had begged him not to go on that mission. But he had to- to save people- he said. But now- he was gone.
All gone.
Leaving Dex alone-
Again.
Always alone- always and forever on his own.
And as he poured the juice around the tree- and sat down next to it- he whispered;
"Forever."
