THEY HAD TAKEN me from my bed whilst I slept

THEY HAD TAKEN me from my bed whilst I slept.  They had dragged me out of my tent and out into the cool night, where the rest of the tribe was waiting.

I didn't know what was happening, all I knew was it wasn't good.  They had tied rope around my body, securing me.

Our chief muttered prayers under his breathe as the men hoisted me up and marched me away from camp, some members of the tribe following.

"What's happening?" I whimper, trying to resist but failing miserably.

They ignored me as they continued marching.  As we drifted further and further away from camp, the air had gotten cooler, meaning we were nearing water.

"Chief I'Okoa!" I yell, "Please, stop this!  I-I don't understand!"

Suddenly, the men halt and the chief strides up to me and mutters, "Gods, take this young girl's life and in return, replenish our crops for the year and grant us good harvest."

A sacrificial prayer.

"No!  No!" I start screaming and thrashing, "Please, don't!  I don't want to!  I beg you, Chief I'Okoa!"

Chief I'Okoa stares at me with a blank expression as he kisses his thumb then slowly swipes it across my forehead.

I stare at him with watery eyes, now quietly begging him as he walks away slowly, not taking his eyes off me.

He raises his hand, signaling to the men.  As soon as they seat it, they swing me back then forward and let go.

I don't scream as I get tossed over the cliff, I just silently cry and hope that my death will be a quick one.

I know I'll be landing in the ocean, I just hope my head hits a rock.  Drowning was one of my worst fears.

My breathe gets knocked out of me as I hit the surface of the ocean, my bones shattering into smaller pieces.

I try to scream at the impact, but my lungs fails me as they collapse. A slow death, then.

My limbs freeze at the below freezing temperatures of the ocean, my whole body numbing as I sink further down.

I see movement to my right but I can't turn my head. Maybe I had started hallucinating.

The feeling of an arm wrapping around my waist and the other supporting my neck made me smile. Had I finally died? Was God bringing me to Heaven?

A face appeared in my vision, though the salty water blurred my sight. He was beautiful though, that much I can tell. Maybe it was an angel retrieving me.

His hand swiped the side of my face, caressing my cheek and pushing my hair back as it floated around me.

He leaned down after a second, pausing slightly before bringing his lips down on mine. If I was in the right state of mind, I would've pushed him away, but I wasn't.

My lips were frozen shut, I didn't open them or push him back, instead I just floated there, strapped down.

He urged my lips open with his tongue and blew into my mouth, filling my lungs with air.

My lungs burned as they were forced air into them, but at the same time, it felt good taking a breath of air.

The man pulled back and examined me, still caressing my cheek. I stared at him back the entire time, even as black splotches started invading my vision.

Now was I dying? I could only hope.
