In a small room, in an appartment, in a typically London - crafted building in Soho, sat a group of young, talented individuals.
They all sat around in a semi circle looking nervously around themselves. Jim, Mat, Ben, Larry, Simon and (the trying to look very lady - like, amongst so many gentlemen) Martha. Mat was trying his best to seem tough and confident but it just wasn’t in him. After all, it was their first sketch together and everyone was nervous. At least, that’s what Mat hoped.
‘He looked at me!‘ thought Martha, trying to hide a little smile that crawled upon her lips. She had been very cautious of the way she acted around this, skinny but adorable, man not wanting to make a bad first impression. She didn’t even know his name. “Ugh. When is this ‘Caroline’ going to get here?!” she murmured quietly to herself, slowly looking up, across to where the handsome - nervous looking man sat. She wanted to look at him directly but didn’t want to be caught, other wise she would surely die of embarrassment.
So she first took a look at the man sitting beside him. He was a slightly chubby man, however looked as if he had a sweet soul. Martha looked forward to meeting him. They would surely get along. She finally looked over to the tall, handsome man she intended on marrying. Their eyes suddenly met and they both quickly looked away, not stopping a noticeable smile crawl upon both their lips.
Mat blushed, smiled to himself, crossed his arms and looked down at his feet, noticing his brown, leathery, old - fashioned shoes and long socks. ‘Ugh. She probably thinks I’m an old man.’ He said to himself. He had to talk to her as soon as possible, and make sure she doesn’t think she’s some creepy guy that likes old people’s clothes. Mat sat awkwardly with his legs crossed and looked to the, dark - brown haired, man to his right. He uncrossed his arms. He desperately wanted to start a conversation, after what seemed like centuries of silence amongst this group of people.
“Hi” he said quickly and hope for a reply. The man turned his head and a noticeable sigh of relief escaped his lips. “Hi” he said smiling. Mat felt a great load of wait leave his shoulders . “My name -” before Mat could finish his sentence, and average height woman with average length, brown hair walked in the room. Everyone smiled, maybe too quickly, at the sight of a new person - probably, hopefully - ‘Caroline’.
Everyone sat up straight and tried to look professional as this confident yet friendly woman talked, explained, introduced, gave out scripts, papers, names and lists that would apparently be needed for future reference. ‘This was it’ thought both Mat and Martha, as Caroline went around the room introducing everyone and suddenly everyone seemed really friendly, as if they’ve known each other for years. Mat and Martha were introduced to each other. Their hearts skipped a beat and their sparkling eyes met; but this time they didn’t look away.
Mat: ‘Martha...’
Martha: ‘Mat, that’s such...’
Mat: ‘... a nice name.’
Another unexpected smile crawled upon both their lips...
