Len saw a bunch of posts with the hashtag 'いい夫婦の日' all over his social media timeline. Apparently, 11/22 sounds similar to "good married couple" in Japanese, so this day is also called Good Couple Day. Many fans from different fandoms were wishing for their ships to get married, and, of course, some tweets said "RinLen are married," with illustrations drawn for the occasion.
Even though it's been more than 14 years since they were created, he was already used to fans celebrating this day for them.
But for some reason, he did feel his cheeks getting warmer.
He got out of bed and walked to the bathroom. Rin, who had gotten out of bed a bit earlier than him, was already there, still looking a bit sleepy.
"Rin, do you know what day it is?"
"November 12th, I guess?" she answered in a lazy voice. He was sure she was still half asleep.
"I was on my phone, and it seems like it's Good Couple Day in Japan," Len tried to act naturally, speaking in the calmest voice possible.
"Oh, is that so?"
Rin put on a headband that looked like her usual ribbon and bent down to wash her face.
"I saw a lot of fans saying 'RinLen wedding' and stuff. It's kind of wild that people are still telling us to get married even to this day. Don't you think?"
Len was getting embarrassed as he spoke, but Rin, on the other hand, showed no reaction at all. She was just quietly drying her damp face with a towel.
"Getting married, huh..." Rin whispered to herself.
Even though it seemed like she was more awake now compared to earlier, Len wasn't so sure anymore.
"Is there anything wrong with that...?"
"It just sounds weird coming from you. I mean, the part about getting married."
Anything Rin said just didn't make sense to Len. Did she feel that their relationship hadn't reached the point of marriage yet? Or was it because they were Vocaloids and not humans?
"Even though we can't wear wedding rings, we share the same last name, so we're technically married in some ways, right?" she said, flashing a big smile just for him.
"You could say that..." The sudden confession made his heart skip a beat. He still tried to speak in a calming voice, but his hand was already reaching for her cheek.
As he slowly closed the distance between them, just as he was about to close his eyes to kiss her, the cold touch of her fingers stopped him.
"I already finished brushing my teeth. Go brush yours, wash your face, and then we can continue," Rin said, looking at him with her innocent, puppy-like eyes.
"You're serious?" Len frowned a little at her words.
"You're the one who insisted on staying in bed with your phone when I wanted you to get up with me," she stuck out her tongue and made a face at him.
Since Rin had already destroyed the mood, Len had no choice but to pick up his toothbrush as she had instructed.
Rin laughed behind her hand, and Len just sighed heavily while looking at her in the mirror. Well, he was the one who had decided to spoil his waifu.
"Hey, Len," Rin called in a sweet voice.
Before he could respond, Rin reached out and gently grabbed his chin, planting a light kiss on his cheek.
"You're not the only one spoiling your partner, husbando."
He couldn't believe his ears for a second. It was like Rin could read his mind. He could only call her that in his thoughts, but he would never dare to address Rin with that word out loud.
Rin quickly left the bathroom, leaving Len standing alone, his jaw dropped.
However, he did catch a glimpse of Rin's ear turning red before she left.
