With one final step Tulip finally reached the top of the staircase, she could feel the cold air burn her lungs as sweat dripped from her forehead. If it wasn’t for the support of the landing she would have collapsed. Her legs wouldn’t stop shaking as she dropped the bag filled with Pigsy’s Noodles onto the ground.
“How-” she panted “-does MK do this every time he trains? That almost killed me!”
Wiping the sweat from her brow, Tulip began to take in her surroundings. The grand dojo is what caught her eye first, its towering stature gave the presence of something sacred, yet elegant. She scoured to see the used training grounds that have been partially destroyed, rock piled up, and there were plenty of cracks in the ground.
“Wow…”Tulip’s thoughts trailed off “Couldn’t imagine what kind of intense training MK is going through but it looks rough”
Tulip finally pans over the horizon to see a stunning sunset, she can see across the landscape to a beautiful view of the city. Despite the gorgeous view Tulip couldn’t help but frown, still no sign of MK. The goofball had run off to find the Monkey King after he disappeared from the festival, MK was so worried after what he said to him, whatever it was. It had been hours with no sign of the two of them, Mei and Pigsy went off to search the city while Sandy searched the outskirts. Knowing MK, he’d probably be here where the Monkey King resides, Flower Fruit Mountain.
“Damn it, MK” Tulip let out a long sigh “I’m never going to find you at this rate, why did I think this was a good idea to go alone!”
Tulip picks up the bag of noodles, ready to head back down probably the world's longest set of stairs when she pauses to take in one last view of the sun. It’s still beautiful as ever, with the sun slowly rolling down to dusk, it was a sight to see. Even more of a sight when she pans over to see the Monkey King.
“Oh shit, it’s him!” she said softly, before quickly covering her mouth. Tulip had only ever had brief encounters with the King, no more than acquaintances to acquaintances. She noticed the King had curled himself into a ball, his arms tucked tightly to himself as his eyebrows furrowed with frustration. Tulip didn’t know exactly what happened at the festival, it was to celebrate him of course.
Today marks the day of the Monkey King’s ‘crowning’ of the circlet, the first step towards the start of the Journey to the West. Everyone knows the story, it’s how he became a great hero! Or so they say, Tulip never really paid attention to the folktales no matter how much Tang would constantly bring it up in conversation. MK decided to drag the King along for a day of festivities but he didn’t look so thrilled to be there.
“I should probably go…” Tulip thought “Once I find MK, I’ll let him know that he is here” she goes to turn away back towards the stairs before she stops. A faint sob could be heard from behind as it could only be one person. Tulip looks towards the Monkey King, his head now resting on his arms but you can see the tears begin to spill from his eyes as he sobs into himself. Tulip felt uneasy seeing him like this, never has she thought she would see the Monkey King of all people cry.
