"So..." Jennie trailed off, looking up from the romance book in her hand toward where Lisa was reading on the opposite end of the couch. "Can I ask you a non either-or question?"
"Are you going to start every question like that until we're both super old and can't fully hear one another's questions?" Lisa asked, peeking over her book with a teasing smile.
"Of course not," Jennie scoffed, closing the book and dropping it into her lap. "I'll do it like this."
Jennie cleared her throat and sat up a little straighter on the couch. And after smirking over at Lisa, she added at a legit yell, "CAN I ASK YOU A NON EITHER-OR QUESTION?"
Lisa couldn't help the laugh that burst from her lips as she dropped her own book onto her chest. "YES, BABY!" she answered through her laughter.
"WHAT WAS THAT?" Jennie called loudly, cupping her hands around her mouth.
"YES!" Lisa yelled again, her smile only growing.
"WHAT?" Jennie replied, almost unable to keep yelling because she was laughing so hard.
With a sigh and almost a snort of laughter, Lisa tossed her book onto the coffee table and crawled across the couch to settle on top of Jennie. "I said yes," Tobin murmured, punctuating each word with a kiss.
Jennie grinned and chased her lips, sinking into the kiss for a moment before leaning back and cradling Lisa's face between her hands.
"I just wanted to ask if you... I just wanted to make sure you were happy, is all," Jennie said softly, running her thumbs along her cheekbones.
"I'm incredibly happy," Lisa nodded, sinking more fully against Jennie. "I get to live on my favorite piece of land with my favorite person, doing a job that I enjoy. Are you happy?"
Jennie nodded, her smile radiant as she gazed up at Lisa, their legs tangling together.
"Yeah, baby. I'm... I haven't been happy like this in- well, maybe ever," Jennie admitted quietly.
"I know I haven't," Lisa whispered, brushing her thumb softly over her girl's hipbone and burying her face against her neck.
"You were made to be happy," Jennie observed, tracing a hand up and down Lisa's back as she held her.
"So were you," Lisa murmured. "That's what I want to do. Just make you happy."
"Until we're old and can't hear each other?" Jennie wondered, tracing nonsensical patterns across the soft material of Lisa's t-shirt.
"You want to put up with me until we're old and can't hear one another?" Lisa asked softly, trailing her nose along the column of her throat.
"Did you just answer my question with a question?" Jennie chuckled.
"Did you just answer my question to your question with a question?" Lisa teased quietly.
Jennie playfully pinched her side before wrapping her arms tightly around Lisa's back to hold her close.
"I'd like to make you happy until we're old and can't hear each other. I'd like to make you happy for as long as you'll let me," Lisa admitted at a whisper, her eyes fluttering closed as she squirmed closer to Jennie.
"Let's start with a long, long time and go from there, okay?" Jenni whispered back. "Can I... ask you another question?"
"You don't need to ask me that. You can just ask me the question," Lisa murmured.
"Yeah, but that's how we started this whole thing, so," Jennie replied with a breathy laugh, burying her nose in her hair.
"In that case, yes you can ask me another one," Lisa answered as she slipped her hand more fully under Jennie's shirt, pressing her hand against the warm skin over her stomach.
