I was walking through the woods, having escaped my stepmother's abuse with not a clue of where I was heading. All I knew was that I wanted to be far from there. My father never did anything to stop her, so she induced that torture on me for many years, but I planned to not tolerate it anymore, so I fled. I was eighteen anyway, it was fine. I'll figure it out, I always do... At least, I hope so.
As I was walking, I used the moonlight to help me guide the way. The branches of the trees were blocking the moon, and it was reflecting and casting off the ground, but it didn't affect me as I followed the trail. And I followed it all the way to this house that seemed to be buzzing with activity, there were people inside, and I stopped to look tentatively through the large window.
I saw a lot of smiles and happy faces, and laughter too. They appeared to be celebrating Thanksgiving, given the big turkey placed in the middle of the table, and everyone grabbing their fair share. Was it Thanksgiving? I seemed to have forgotten. Not like I've lived one of those before, so holidays were pretty much nonexistent for me all my life.
I stared at them longingly through the window, wishing that could be me. Right there, anywhere beside or between them. That's all I asked for, and instead I got quite the opposite. I wondered if I would ever experience something like that, but I didn't hold that much hope. After all, I was deemed to be unlucky forever. But if I did, I would literally cry tears of joy, but again, my chances were slim to none at the rate I was going.
"You yearn for that." It sounded more like a statement than anything...
"Yeah, I do... Wait, what-"
Suddenly, I was engulfed in a huge body bag.
You see, this is why you're not afraid of being alone. You're suddenly afraid of not being alone, when you thought you were. Knowing there's something—or worse, someone—lurking out there, waiting for you, a vulnerable person such as myself... I was a little too late with this thought.

I awoke in a dark room that was lit by a singular light, and it was hanging right above my head. I also noticed I was tied down to a chair, and I squirmed around and pulled against the ropes, but the restraints were too tight. I was trapped here with nowhere to go, and with God knows who... Oh my, I could feel the terror rising up within me...
