The days leading up to the party were normal. Brooklyn and Sammy were annoying as always, Kai and I had a few small conversations here and there. Nothing interesting to note, other than the fact that Kai had started sitting next to me on the bus. He never says anything, though. He just sits beside me and listens to his music. I don't mind it. He also never seems to look bad. It's so unfair. How can one be so pretty while another the complete opposite.
Enough of my rambling.
It's the first day of the weekend, which just so happens to be the day of the party. I throw on a black and white skirt, an oversized black jumper, and black boots. I sit at my desk, staring into the mirror. I run a brush through my hair, grab my black and white bag, throw shit I might need in there and walk downstairs. I turn into the kitchen.
"Mother" I yell when I don't see her. "I'm heading off"
Mother walked from the loungeroom, looking me up and down, "Where to?" she asked, grabbing a cup from the cupboard.
"The party" I said. "I told you about it the other day, remember?"
She waved a hand in dismissal, "Don't be out for too long or I'll throw you out of my house, understand?" The only reply I gave her was a nod and I was walking out the door.
The sun was just beginning to set when I got to the address Kai had sent me. His house was only a street down from mine, so I had walked. It large, two-story and had a beautiful garden. I walked up to one of the many flower bushes and stared at it for a while, until I heard voices from inside the house. I whirled around to see Kai and a few other people walk away from the window. A moment later they were at the front door. I walked up to them, waving.
"Hey, Lana" he smiled, turning to his other friends. "This is Gayle" he said, pointing to a small female with cute freckles splattered across her face. "This is Tara" he pointed to a taller female. "Yalkie" a short male. "Danny" A tall male. "And Evan" he was around my height. Kai moved aside, allowing me to walk in. "Guys, this is Lana, a friend from school"
The shorter girl, Gayle giggled, "Kai talks about you a lot" I felt my face burn up. Kai shoved Gayle into Evan who began laughing. "He won't shut up about you, it gets annoying" she went on.
I shoved away all of the stupid thoughts that went through my mind. They were probably just joking. I shoved my way past them, walking into Kai's house in a random direction. I found myself in a loungeroom. I discarded my bag on the ground and sat on the couch. The other six came in shortly after, Kai slightly pink while the others continued laughing their heads off. They all rushed to the couch, occupying all the seats, except for one beside me. Kai shook his head and sat down in the empty spot.
"You guys are the worst" he grumbled, leaning into the couch. "I never should have become friends with any of you"
The room was silent for a while, other than Gayle and Yalkie still giggling. I looked around, taking in the room. It was fairly large with a tv beside the door we had just come through. There was a small table in the middle adorned with a few burning candles. There was another door, leading into what seemed to be a kitchen. I was about to look away when I saw a cat run across the door frame.
"You have a cat?" I almost yelled, jumping from the couch.
"Uh.. yes" Kai said, leaning forward. "He doesn't like people" I turned around and as if he could read the question on my face, he said, "His name is Ice-cream"
I rushed for the door and looked around. There he was, on top of the counter, staring at me with his cute little eyes. I walked over to him, extending a hand. I waited for him to turn and run, but he didn't. I could hear talking from the loungeroom as I got close enough to pet him. He pushed himself into my hand, allowing me to stroke his back. His fur was soft, just how I imagine Kai's hair to feel. I looked at his cute little face. He was mostly black with splotches of brown and white.
