My keys jangle as I try to fit them in the door, before I hear someone's hand rattle the door handle and open the door. As the door opens, a girl appears. She has wavy, dirty-blonde hair, and it comes right below her chest. She's wearing a simple white shirt, with a pastel blue checkered dress, with inch-thick straps, a sweetheart neckline, and the dress seemed stiff, but it clung to her curves. She wasn't super curvy, but it made her look the part of being so.
A little further down, she had embroidered white pantyhose with ruffle-ended socks that were also white, topped off with black heels. But one a schoolgirl would wear.
'Hi, you must be my new roommate," she says in a cheery tone. I nod, and she smiles. "You seemed to make yourself quite at home, which I'm thankful you feel comfortable in this room. My name's Haley," she said, extending a hand. I took it and shaked it gently, before she stepped back and opened the door wider for me.
I stepped in and she closed the door behind me before walking over to her own side of the room and flinging herself to her bed, sinking into the mattress. She then sat up and started reading her book that she had sitting on her bed, and that left me to my own devices.
I walked over and sat down in my own bed and opened up my phone, selecting a song to listen to, choosing Brick by Boring Brick by Paramore, before getting interrupted by the familiar sound of my roommates voice. I turn to attention, so she knows I heard her, but tilt my head to tell her I didn't exactly "hear" or understand her. She seems to take this signal well.
"What made you move here, not a lot of people come to this school under their own free will," she chuckles.
"My mom just doesn't have to pay for the services, that's all, that's why she was over the moon about me coming here. Besides, she wanted me out of the house anyway," I shrug. She nods to herself, and then goes back to her book. But her inquiring about my appearance at the school makes me ponder how she got here.
"How long have you been here?" I ask. She turns back towards me, folding her book in and setting it aside.
"I've been here since freshman year, Only reason I came was because they took strange kids like me."
"How're you a strange kid?"
"Just because I can't fully stay focused in a public and conversational setting, I can get all my work done. Normal schools didn't really enjoy that too much," she sighs. I see her face falter but then she looks back at me and automatically puts on a smile.
"Well, at least you're getting the work done right? I mean, any school would be thankful that that's what you're able to do, even if you can't fully participate in a presentation or anything," I shrug. She nods, as if agreeing with me.
"I mean you're not wrong. I guess ever since I've moved here, a lot of kids still don't understand how weird I can be. But I try not to let it bother me too much," she sighs again.
"Mind if I come sit on your bed?" She perks up when I say this, mostly just because she seemed like she hadn't gotten close to anyone in awhile. I make my way over to her bed and lay next to her. I don't touch her, not yet. I need for her to get comfortable with me first. Besides, I'm not really her friend yet, I'm just her roommate.
"How many friends have you had at this school so far?" I ask. She ponders before looking into my eyes, and one would mistake it for longing, but for me, it came across as simply questioning how to answer.
"One, maybe. I wouldn't really count her as a friend because of the bodyguard that follows her around like a lost puppy," she says, chuckling a little.
"You mean Felicity? Yeah she seems sweet but also rude as fuck," I admit. This makes Haley laugh out loud which is what I didn't expect. I lean my face closer to her, laughing with her. As she finally calms down from making her laugh a lot, she situates herself by sitting up. "Have you had any love interests at all?"
