Her against the team

Chapter 4

                Isobel remained in the hospital for a few days, because of the internal bleeding that she made when she arrived. However, she refused any visits, especially from the JOC team, accepting only Jess and Kristin to whom she had sent some messages feeling lost. Isobel, although feeling betrayed by her team, felt that the woman would not do the same, Jess had put so much vigour in her joining his team and then she too had been through it. They had received an investigation sending them away from New York by really to displease Isobel who did not want to see Jess show up every night in the hospital room that look full of compassion in her face. Jubal had tried to go see Isobel but the guards at her door refused to let him through when it wasn't the medical team that stopped him before. He tried to call her, but he automatically went to his answering machine. He wasn't surprised, Isobel could be stubborn and resentful. Maggie grunted not to go to the hospital, but the paramedic insisted that she have her wound examined by a doctor. The suspect's blade had only cut him suscinement but Oa had pressed her to show it. She would have liked to be able to continue to pursue this guy, find the others who sold Isobel and make them pay.

A woman entered Isobel's room, taking advantage that the two agents were going to take a break. She had stolen an outfit from the hospital to blend in. Isobel was asleep, still tired. The woman took out a syringe, injecting it into the IV.

"Good night bitch," she blew a lock of hair out of Isobel's face.

Isobel awoke with a start from the touch, and let out a cry of surprise and fright. Her eyes fell on the IV and the liquid dangerously moving towards her. Isobel screamed for help.  Maggie heard her scream and rushed gun to hand. She pulled into the woman's shoulder forcing her to let go of Isobel, then she threw herself on her, knocking her against the wall.

"Isobel!"

"The IV!"

Maggie hurried to stop the drip and gently remove it from Isobel's forearm.

"Maggie?!" called Oa.

"In Isobel's room. Go get her doctor!"

Maggie's heart broke when she saw Isobel's bruised and hollowed face, it was their fault. How could they abandon her that way...

"Everything alright, everything's alright, I promise I will skin these two agents who have left their post" grumbled Maggie shaking Isobel's hand hoping to reassure her, but she freed herself from the gesture.

Maggie didn't take it for herself, understanding, they'd lost her trust. Scola and Tiffany fetched the woman, and Scola nodded at Isobel, and Tiffany avoided eye contact. 

"She's pretty banged up, it's hard to recognize her," commented Tiffany as they were guiding the woman into the interrogation room.

"Yeah, but she's strong."

"Who is that? And who is that woman?" Jubal asked, joining them in the hall.

"Hmmm Maggie didn't tell you?" Scola said.

"Say what?"

"This woman tried to poison Isobel, Maggie got there in time when she heard Isobel screaming." Tiffany explained.

"What? Why didn't you tell me immediately?! How's Isobel?"

"Because I didn't see the need. I got there on time, the doctor said the poison didn't have time to get into her system." intervened Maggie.

"What about Isobel?"

"She's shaken," said Maggie, but she didn't spread it any more than she had a little chat with the SAC. 

"Nina is watching the room with another colleague of her, we can be sure that Isobel is safe this time." announced Oa by joining them by rubbing his hands.

"It will save us from having Lacroix fall on us to scream." commented Tiffany.

"We still deserved it," said Oa.

"We should have taken her back to the office and not left her hanging. If we had waited for her, they would never have taken her. Let her get in one of our cars, even if we didn't talk to her. It's on us." added Maggie.

Tiffany shrugged back to her desk. Jubal played nervously with his pencil, turning it between his fingers.

"We can't erase what happened. But we can at least stop them all. Put them behind bars." he said  "Oa and Scola interrogate him, Maggie you suppervises, and goes there if it's need." 

At the end of the day, Jubal was able to send a message to Jess that they arrested those who kidnapped Isobel in the first place, then those who sold her several times, not to mention those who did a lot of things to her. All that was left was the people who organized the sales meetings. The little hands.
