You drove your janky little car along the slanted mountain road, coasting along to your new home. It was a bit far from anywhere but that didn't matter much to you as you'd been saving money up for awhile now thankfully only a small portion only went towards this cabin. But still it would be weird. Not leaving civilization to live a simple life in the mountains, obviously that was a dream of yours. Rather achieving a long lived dream of living a somewhat normal life instead of going from hellhole to hellhole, working constant dead end jobs around the clock to make enough to get here. Everything was finally coming to fruition. Partly thanks to your shitty father who left behind a decent inheritance for you to claim. But mostly it was from your own back breaking hard work and determination over all those years. Would you enjoy it as much as you had thought? Was this all some huge mistake, is it stupid to be out this far into the woods all alone? That's kinda horror tropey isn't it? You shook your head, a determined look on your face as you stared ahead at the road. This wasn't a mistake this was what you yearned for, what you craved to have every day of the miserable life back 'home'. This was going to be perfect.
After another hour of driving, listening to a mix of podcasts and your usual playlist you had finally made it. You parked your car in front of the cabin, it wasn't small but it wasn't huge either, it was in all honesty your total dream home though. you step out and begin to stretch and felt free, relaxed almost for the first time in your life. You clutched your chest letting out a deep breath while a grin stretched across your face. "Some of my stuff is in my car but the movers should have the rest here eventually....though it isn't all that much...." You said to yourself as you opened the trunk and began pulling as many bags as you could carry then made your way into the cabin. It only took a few more trips until everything was in there and you were able to settle down on the couch. The previous owners had been kind enough to leave behind a good amount of furniture, it was all weathered and worn as well as stereotypical cabin furniture but hey it was furniture. Looking to the wall across from the couch was an empty spot where your tv would soon sit along with a few other trinkets. As you imagined what all would go where your stomach growled loudly. You threw your head back groaning realizing you had completely forgot to factor in a basic necessity to your grand plan: food.
The drive back down the mountain was just as uneventful as the drive up had been, just how you like it. You decided to shop big this time, you had electricity and running water so nothing was stopping you from buying some more extravagant items. After a bit of shopping you began to feel eyes staring into you but you ignored them. "Probably some of these hick townies..." You mumbled to yourself pushing your cart towards the next aisle. After a little while the feeling disappeared so you took a discreet look around trying to find the culprit. But oddly enough there was no one but you in the aisle, I suppose it was a little late in the day to be grocery shopping for most. Shrugging off the instance you completed your shopping, checked out and made your way back to car with your brand new haul.
After a slightly boring session of stocking groceries into your pantry, cabinets, and fridge you stuck a pizza into the oven. Then crashed onto your couch and plopped your laptop onto the table firing up your favorite youtuber after connecting to your hotspot. You were very much enjoying yourself until you felt your blood run cold out of nowhere. You shot up out instinct, frantically searching around the room from your spot. Suddenly your breathing was heavy and erratic. You still can't explain to this day what made you feel that way and in all honesty you've done your best to completely ignore that memory. But one thing was certain you didn't feel as alone as you had hoped.
