Chapter 1
My Mother.
I sat down in my plastic chair and felt the fabric of my sweater crinkle up against my arms as I lay them on top of the desk, the sound of my music blasting in my ears as it drowned out the blabbering of the teacher. I let out a sigh leaning into the chair feeling a tap on the back of my shoulder.
" Mr. Halvorson earbuds please. " He said, bringing out his grimy hand in front of my face. I could smell the sweet scent of cigarettes on his breath as he stood there waiting for me to drop them in his hand. I let out a huff as I took my earbuds out placing them into his palm. His hand snapped shut as soon as they fell into his hand.
" Anyways class, this upcoming week we are having a summer carnival! " The room filled up with excitement as our school had never done anything like this before. Why now?
" Admissions are 5$, this carnival will include a special band along with many fun amusement rides, and of course a ferris wheel; There will be more information in the announcements and if you have any questions or need anything else you may go to the office. "
I could hear the girls in the back giggling as they talked about their boyfriends and the gross, weird things they might do to them on that ferris wheel.
I'd never really understood having a romantic interest and the emotions that would come with it, how could somebody love someone like those girls let alone someone like me? Although I was slightly jealous as I knew I'd never be able to experience a teen romance, I'd never be able to have something like in the movies.
I could feel the jealousy building up in me, I needed a stress reliever. I raised my hand to use the bathroom and felt my sleeve slowly slide down my arm, the teacher gave me a nod. As I got up from my chair I could feel the whole room staring at me, like they were all judging me; like they knew what I was hiding. I pushed through the front of the school doors and walked over to the teachers smoking area, no one ever came over here. I was fine. I pulled out the slightly squashed cigarette out of my pocket and put it to my lips, the scent of tobacco filled my nostrils. I took my last puff, and sprayed myself with some mini deodorant as a pity attempt to mask the smell. I threw the bud on the ground and stomped on it with my shoe.
I walked back into class letting out a sigh of relief as it was almost over.
I sat back down at my desk, watching the clock. "Tick..tick..tick." The loudness of the bell rang through my ears as I quickly got up and left.
As soon as I had left I had arrived.. home. I could hear my heavy footsteps as they pounded against the concrete stairs. My fist wrapped tight around the door handle. I opened the door attempting to have it not squeak, but of course like always, it did. My mother rushed to the front door greeting me.
"Hello sweetie! I'm so glad you're back, I was just making dinner. " She wrapped her arms around my waist and slowly rubbed my back. She looked up at me with a smile still clutching on, I could feel her cold hands slowly make their way down the back of my pants getting as close as she could. She knew what she was doing. But it was okay, it was normal. In the back of my head I couldn't help but feel a little uncomfortable. I smiled at her. She took her hands out and quickly waddled back over to the kitchen. This was normal, right?
