dylan POV

ding! an annoyed groan ripples through dylan's throat, as he turns to his side, away from the irritating demon machine eliciting irritating noises.

maybe joining this stupid group chat wasn't the brightest idea i've ever had. the screen lights up in fervent concession, bright on his bedroom window. succumbing to answering his annoying friends and ceasing the urge to throw his phone across the room, dylan turns back around to face his device, picking it up.

dyldo: 💀

KitKat™: ew. it's here.

dyldo, replying to KitKat™: crying as we speak. wiping away my tears

emmastar: THE QUEEN HAS
ARRIVED 🤩🤩

dyldo: yes yes, hello all. i've blessed you with my presence, relish. ❤️ missed me? 💆🏻
KitKat™: no.
Jacko: dylan, my man 💪🏻
Nicknelson🏳️‍🌈: yo. hru?

dyldo: fucking EXHAUSTED. but glad to be here 😽

gail: Hi Dylan!
ryan: hey dyl.

almost immediately, dylan tensed up at these words, eyes furrowing as his pale face paled even further. he sighs deeply, saliva thick as he swallowed it down. it had been a couple years. a couple years since camp, a couple years since-

since ryan.

as the grip on his phone intensified, dylan could feel his mind spiral, spiralling back to 3 years ago, july.

got a girlfriend, or...

boyfriend?

free agent
you?

same, same

a periodic moment of silence fills the air, as dylan chews the inside of his cheek. he sucks in air through his nose, before further approaching ryan.

do you like anyone here? at camp?

he straight up asked him, tip of his nose turning bright pink as he turned his face away.

uh... i dunno man. i think kaitlyn's kinda cute. i'm not 100 though.

at that moment , dylan felt his world crumble to the ground. he kept his smile however, as always ,

don't we all, huh?

dylan had no idea when ryan's attraction toward kaitlyn started, but he sure as hell knew how he felt about it.

after kaitlyn and ryan's lips unlatched from each other, dylan felt a hot sting build up in his eyes, pain and sorrow boring into his stomach. it pushed cold and ugly against his rib cage, as the people around him hollar loudly. he decided to contain his sadness, thinking i was stupid to assume he would choose me. the camp fire crackled on, as dylan sat defeated in front of the heat. you guys are perfect for each other, just look at em, abi. it was as if god was rubbing it in his face, laughing at him.
