Percy P.O.V

I waited impatiently outside the Athena cabin. Annabeth had just slipped inside, promising to be quick. The luminous moon hanging over the night sky laughed at me as I tapped my foot, wishing I had a watch to check.

It was the Fourth of July, which meant the Hephaestus cabin's amazing fireworks show, one you didn't want to miss.

One we were about to miss.

"Annabeth?" I called into the cabin, "Any time now."

"Yeah, yeah Seaweed Brain. Give me a minute to slip into something ... more comfortable." Came the reply. That piqued my interest, and I shut up right away.

Loud shouts and cheers echoed from the beach, telling me that the fireworks were about to start. I really wanted to see it this year, because Leo had been the mastermind behind it. Who knows what crazy things he could make the fireworks do?

But I forgot all of that when Annabeth appeared in the doorway. I forgot everything, in fact. I gaped at her. She wore a sea green dress styled like a Greek tunic, and her blonde hair fell down in elegant curves, surrounding her face. No shoes donned her bare feet, but that only made her all the more simply gorgeous. Her grey eyes twinkled at my expression. I couldn't speak, for fear of offending Aphrodite. True, she was the goddess of beauty, but in my eyes Annabeth outshone her a million times over.

"Like what you see?" She teased.

"Come here," I held out one hand, as if asking her to dance. I suddenly felt very underdressed in only my camp shirt and jeans.

Smiling, she accepted my offering, and we walked down to the beach together, her delicate hand cupped inside mine the entire way. I led her to a blanket I'd placed there earlier, in the best viewing spot.

"I wanted to surprise you," Annabeth explained as we sat down.

"I think you succeeded," I mumbled back. I threw my arm over her bare shoulder, pulling her close.

"Percy."

"Annabeth?"

Suddenly, an explosion of magnificent light and colour illuminated the entire night sky. Green and gold sparks intertwined with each other as purple and orange danced across the stars. We both glanced up in awe, but this was only the beginning. The next shot of fireworks outlined the figure of the gods, a tradition that had started before I had arrived. But next was something entirely different. I watched as the story of the last year played out on the biggest screen possible, starting with Jason fighting the storm spirits to me summoning waves and wielding Riptide against spirits in Alaska, culiminating in the victorious defeat of Gaea.

"Wow." I muttered.

"Percy." Annabeth repeated.

I turned to her, "Yes?"

"I love you."

"I love you."
