Cara's POV

I feel my best friend Darcy's clammy palms pressed hard against my cheeks.

"Wake up loser! We're almost there!" I ignore Darcy's pleads for me to wake up and I slowly remove my feet from the dashboard and turn to face the window.

"Oh come on Cara! Don't be like this!" Darcy says, without hesitating to blow out any of the songs I hate through the car's speakers.

"Wake up Cara! If you don't wake up I swear to god I will crash the car!" Darcy screeches, the loud music drowning out her voice. She purposely swerves the car to the right causing my head to bump into the glass window.

I turn my body to look her way, hoping to see an apologetic look on her face, but anger fumes up within me when I only observe her hysterical laughter. My mind clicks and a perfect idea floats into my brain. I use my left hand to reach into the greasy fast-food bag from earlier that night, and pull out a half empty travel size packet of ketchup. I smear the rest of the substance all over my right hand, the window, and on my hair.

"Darcy, is it just me or do you feel a tiny bit lightheaded right now?" I pull my right hand off my head and look down at it, pretending to be astonished at the amount of "blood" on my hand. I then slowly lay my head back, put on a blank stare, and I pretend to stop breathing, my hand with "blood" landing on Darcy' s thigh.

"Cara? Cara!" She screeches when she sees my hand.  Her hand starts to shake as tries to turn the dial to lower the volume of the blaring music. Out of the corner of my eye, I see her turn to look at me.

"Cara! Omigod! Are you okay? Please don't be dead! I'm so sorry!" She pulls her car into the dusty dirt off the road, takes out her brand new iPhone, and attempts to dial 911 with her shaking hands. I bite the inside of my cheek so I won't  smile and so I can stop myself from bursting out in laughter. Immediately I hear the operator on the other line of Darcy's phone.

"911, what is your emergency?" The woman's voice on the operator's line sounds dull and low, like she could care less about the world right now.

"Yes, yes, my friend, she banged her head on the window and she's full of blood and-"

I cut Darcy off and scream, "Sike!"

"Cara you little bitch!" Darcy' s screeches in a high pitched voice. Whenever something makes Darcy mad or gets on her nerves, her voice becomes very high and, quite frankly, annoying.

The depressed operator's voice suddenly turns to a sassy attitude when she hears Cara,"Excuse me? Ma'am I didn't call you, you called me. Don't even dare call me a bitch if I'm just trying to help you!"

Darcy' s hands stumble around searching for her phone. Once she finally answers it, she takes it off of speaker and explains to the bitchy woman, "Uh- sorry- um- ketchup prank."

"Wh-" Darcy quickly hands up the phone before the operator can protest again.

"You scared the shit out of me!" Darcy says.

"I'm sorry!" I say while holding my stomach in between laughs.  I take a napkin and wipe off the sticky ketchup from my hands, and throw it into the empty fast food bag.

Darcy starts up the engine again before looking both ways so she can make her way back onto the empty highway. For it being only eight at night, I would expect more cars, but not everyone is being dragged to a lame Justin Bieber concert by their by best friend.

Darcy's bright blue eyes fill with worry and anger as she starts to yell at me again. "And now we're going to be late! I bet that was your plan all along Cara!"

"Smhhh, no, I didn't have that plan at all!" I reply, rolling my eyes before beginning to laugh again.

"You're so lucky I'm seeing Justin tonight'" Darcy says.

"What does he have to do with anything?" I ask.

"He makes me happy. Plus his words heal my wounds." Darcy says, her face flushing a bright pink while she cracks a tiny smile.

"Oh Lord. You did not just say that. Darcy he's turning you into a cliché little fangirl! Don't fall into his trap!" I say doing the biggest eye roll I could possibly manage before looking out the window again.

"It's only a matter of time before you fall for his brown eyes too, Cara, just you wait."
