20 years later.

Hi my name is Nova, I know tis a very unusual name for a female, but luckily I am not a normal one. I am a pirates daughter and unfortunately pirates are not welcome in any country.  Today is my 20th birthday.

"Here you go," my father said handing me an object wrapped in a leather. I slowly open it to reveal a dagger.
"Thank you father. I love it!"
"It was your mother's. Your mother would have wanted you to have it."

"Tell me again, what was she like and how you met?" My father smiles at me and says,"She was extravagant, filled with a lust for adventure. She had the most beautiful brown eyes and long silky black hair."

"We met each other when I was hiding from the kings guard. Your mother snuck out of her room that night, we ran into each other and there was an instant spark. We spend the night talking and that's how I found out that she was the daughter of the king. She told me that she was to marry in 2 days to a prince that she had never met and that she had heard that he was a very cruel person."

"And then?"

"Well, we came up with a plan to run away together. So we waited for the day of the wedding, I dressed up as a servant in the castle. I knocked on your mother's door and we ran as fast and silently as we could, before we knew it we arrived at the boat and sailed away."

"I love that story. It just makes me sad that pirates are still hunted and killed."
"Well, your mother believed that you would be the one to bring peace..."

"Land ahoy!"
My dad looks at me,"Nova you ready?"

So because women are not usually known as being pirates or mingle with them, I am usually the one send to go and get supplies, but I unfortunately have to dress like a woman to, just to blend in and not draw attention.

"Yes, but I am having trouble breathing in this dress."
My father smiles at me,"I know but by blending in you have a much lesser chance of being unsave."
He then takes out a small leather bag holding the money we need for the supplies.
"Here is the money, and something extra, go and buy yourself something. Maybe a new dress?" He said and winked at me.

The noise of people shouting their specials and people debating whom they should buy from, could already be heard from afar.
I turned the last corner to the market and I was hit with the stench of rotten food, mud, sweat and mossy wood.
The market was filled with people moving from shop to shop. A few hours later I had all the supplies.

'I should probably get a new dress, this dress has seen better days.'

I entered the one shop that seemed to have almost no people in it and entered,"Hello dear," an old lady appeared from behind a large counter,"How can I assist you?"
"Good day madam, I would like a new dress." I said feeling my cheeks warm.

"OH, yes I can see that. Follow me."

She handed me a few dresses each one a different color,"The dressing room is over there." said the old lady whilst pointing to a room.

After putting on the first dress I looked at myself in the narrow window.
I really do look different in a dress.’

After trying on every dress I chose one and handed it to the old lady, “Is this the only one you liked?” “Now madam I unfortunately didn’t bring enough money.”
“Wait right here,” She said and disappeared behind the corner.
She appeared with a blue and green dress,“Here you go dear, on the house.” “Thank you madam, but I couldn’t.” “Please, I made this dress for my daughter, but she will never get the chance to wear this, and this will look so beautiful with your very unique eyes,”
“Are you sure madam?”
“Yes.”
“Thank you so much.”
