I was content having moved to a new apartment, a place that I can call mine, a new job.. a fresh start. The night sky was gloomy, dispersing the purple tint on the skyline, slowly being engulfed by the dark night. The smell of the after rain always gives me a sense of calmness which I love to soak in the ambience after having a hot shower with a cup of hot coffee by the balcony. The towel clung onto my body letting the cool breeze to brush against my skin ever so gently. The aroma of the coffee filled the air as I sip at the edge of the cup careful not to scorch my tongue.
Embracing the cool night laced with the shimmering city lights across the horizon, my thoughts drifted to my recent breakup with Jason. Things did not go well. It took me 2 years to master the courage to stand up for myself and leave him. Hence the new change in scenery. I was starting new, to rebuild myself ground up from the damage he had so casually done in the name of love. Before I spiral down lost in thoughts, the doorbell rang.
"Buzz,"
"Buzz buzz" it rang again.
Startled as I was not expecting anyone, I pulled my towel tighter around my body, and hurried to the door. Peeking through the pin hole, I saw a delivery boy with his flimsy jacket catching his breath while struggling to keep afloat two huge boxes attempting ro balance them on his skinny arms. I quickly unlocked the door and grabbed a box helping him. He placed the other box down and left after I scribbled down my signature on a piece of crumbled paper.
As I watched him galloping down the stairs, "BAAM" I heard a loud sound from behind me. It took me less than a second to realize that my door had shut itself behind me. Panicked, I reached for the door knob and jilted it but it would not open. It has automatically locked itself thanks to the safety feature. At this point I realized the edge of my towel had been caught between the locked door. I tried to keep myself calm but failed miserably. Thoughts rushed through my head putting me in an anxious state of mind. First of all, I did not have my phone with me, I'm draped around a skimpy little towel which soldered me to the ground right outside my door and I have yet to be acquainted with any of the neighbors.
"Great job Lucy! Now you're gonna be be trapped outside of your apartment for hours while being half naked!" I whined to myself out loud hinting to myself how stupid and careless I was while attempting to pull out the piece of fabric that was wedged between close doors.
