FIRST PERSON POV

▌IT WAS RAINING, THE SKY WAS GREY and I can hear sobs coming from many different people at the same time. One of those people being my brother, father and me. I didn't wanna cry— I was told not to by my own mother— she told me not to shed a tear on her funeral, but I couldn't help it at the time, I was a kid.

As they lowered her casket, my tears wouldn’t stop no matter how much hard I tried. They just kept coming, spilling over and blurring everything around me. My small hands were clenched tightly in my brother’s, his grip almost desperate. He hadn’t stopped crying since we found out she was gone, and I guess I hadn’t either.

I just wanted to go home, to her office, and let it all out. I didn’t want to stand here surrounded by people I barely knew. I wanted to be somewhere familiar— somewhere that still felt like her.

I looked up at my father. He’d stopped crying, but his eyes were still red and swollen. When he looked down at me, he managed a soft, sad smile.

"We'll go home shortly," he said, almost like he'd read my mind. I stepped closer and hugged him tightly, holding on like I was afraid to let go. For the rest of the day I didn't leave his side.

I don't wanna losing anyone else, I don't like the feeling that comes after losing soemon.

THIRD PERSON POV

At the age of six, Haruto, the yellow haired twin has gained his quirk while [name] has yet to gain his. Haruto's quirk was the exact same as their mother's, letting him control the plants and such. It was the quirk that could've turned their mother into the hero she wished to be.

Unfortunately, as the days went by, more and more signs of health problems started to show. It got so bad that his father had to take him to the hospital multiple times for different emergencies.

"Sir, he's showing signs of many medical issues... similar to your late wife's."

It was as if his son was a mirror image of his mother— same looks, same personality, same interests, even the same problems. Hearing the news about his son had hit him like a punch to the gut. He couldn't bear the thought of losing him like he had lost her, nor could he let his other child go through that kind of pain again.

"I see. I would like for my son to be discharged immediately." Before the doctor could protest, a single glare from the grieving man made him agree.

・・・

Two years have passed, and [name] had come to terms with being quirkless. While he stayed home, buried in his books, his brother went on living a normal life— something [name] envied.

He didn’t hate his brother, though, and his brother never belittled him for having the same health issues as their mother. In fact, it only seemed to make him care for [name] more, wanting to protect him with everything he had.

One afternoon, [name] was reading in the garden when his brother, still in his school uniform, walked in.

"What are you reading?" Haruto asked, leaning over his shoulder to peek at the book.

[name] quickly closed the book shut, smirking. "Nothing. You wouldn't understand it, so don't bother ask."

"Are you saying i'm stupid?!" Haruto pouted, crossing his legs to sit behind his brother.

The two sat in a comfortable silence, but eventually, [name] broke it. "You know… Dad said Mom wanted to become a hero, but her health got in the way. Her parents made her quit and become a doctor instead."

Haruto hummed, looking at his brother with a thoughtful expression. "You and Mom are so alike... your looks, everything." [name] glanced at his brother. "I could say the same about you and Dad. You two look more like twins than we do." They shared a quiet laugh, a moment of peace.

It was moments like these that made it seem like time stood still, as if all their problems vanished in the warmth of their shared silence.

"I— Do you think I'll ever get my quirk?"  [name] asked, surprising Haruto. But he quickly regained his composure.

"There’s a lot of possibilities. Dad says you’re just a late bloomer."

[name] chuckled bitterly. "Yeah, he’s probably right."

Deep down, [name] had lost hope. But to avoid sinking into despair, he forced himself to stay positive about his condition. "You should become a hero, Haru… in the future."

Haruto hummed thoughtfully, smiling as he lay back on the ground. "I was thinking it should be you. You said Mom wanted to be a hero, and since you two are basically identical, it’d make more sense for you to carry on her dream."

"I kinda get what you mean..."

"Yeah? Let’s make an oath. You take on Mom’s dream, and I’ll take on Dad’s."

"Suurre."

At the time, it felt like a silly promise, but [name] couldn’t help but agree. He thought it might make their father happy— to know that he had a purpose, a reason to find something good out of the bad.

What [name] didn’t know then was just how much worse things would get.
