Dear, my fellow classmates how many of us has been highly influenced by a celebrity's fashion ,their behaviour and their countless waves of advertisements? I know I have. In our society, the renowned, prominent and prestigious people have become vital role models to teens. Today, our role models have become the people featured on television and the Internet - athletes, actors and actresses, and singers. But are celebrities really good role models ? Or are they devils disguiseed as angels tempting, corrupting and injecting lethal injections into the young developing minds of youths ?
One of the many things that can highly impact teenagers and hypnotise like them like a sheep are advertisements. And who advertise a lot ? Celebrities. Advertisements are like a deadly, lethal and vicious virus that eat away teenagers self-esteem like maggots. Advertisements are like the devil's fruit. Many celebrities such as the kardashian sisters always campaign their brands and 45% of them are cosmetic products, cosmetic procedures or unrealistic beauty standards. How sickening is this? Research shows constant exposure with beauty advertisements can lead to self-hate,insecurities and low self esteem issues. Teens look up to these celebrities and many desire to be them, role models are supposed to inspire them not influence and corrupt them to look like unrealistic beauty standards. I think this is just despicable.
Secondly, how many of us have seen celebrities on the covers of newspapers for being involved with drugs, criminal charges and unruly behaviours ? Probably a lot of times. I believe role models are supposed to be assiduous, assertive and attentive not a crackhead and an abuser! Some celebrities show their true colours on social media by being racist, sexist and homophobic. Teenagers will always try to act their idols and will always try to mimic their actions. Do we want our future leaders to have this repulsive, repellent and revolting mentality due to their past role models? Celebrities such as Kanye West have displayed their despicable, disgraceful and disreputable behaviours on every social media platform and the Internet. I don't think this how a role model should act!
Some people might argue and say "not all celebrities act like that" . Yes that is true but however, the majority of role models for teens today are like toddlers that are dying for attention, money and fame and will do anything in their will to be seen . Even if that means crossing the boundaries.
To conclude everything, i personally belive majority of celebrities for teens today are too problematic to be consider a role model. At the end of the day doctors, health care workers and firefighters save lives not celebrities. Have your views on having celebrities as role models changed?
