I felt the beads of sweat run down my forehead and I nervously stared across the table, locking eyes with my clueless date.

How did I get myself in this mess-

I sat there nervously, tapping my acrylics on the table, a nervous smile etching across my face.

"So.....what are your...hobbies?" I asked, trying to seem like I was enjoying myself.

"Oh uh-" He looked down, thinking like it was a hard question to answer. "I dunno- I like watching football."

That's not-

"What about you?"

"Oh??? Me?" I sat there, looking at the clock. Now I'm doing what he did- pausing at an easy question. "Well- I guess I like reading."

"Oh..." He seemed immediately bored with my response, smacking his lips in an incredible annoying way. "What books do you read?"

"Oh romance novels- I'm a sucker for romance...." I giggled nervously, desperately looking over to see if there was even an ounce of interest showing on his face. There wasn't.

"I uh- I also like fantasy- takes you to a whole new world you know? But I can always go for a good classic. I know that's boring but- have you ever read any Shakespeare?" I asked.

"W-Who?"

"Shake- speare..."

"Oh the poetry guy- yeah! All like "thou" and "shall" yaknow?" He chuckled, sounding dumber by the minute. "I don't really read any books- especially Shakespeare- sorry."

"I can tell." I muttered as our plates were suddenly set in front of us by a waiter with a friendly smile.

"Alright that's the Steak au Poivre for the lovely lady and the Lobster Bisque for the gentleman. Enjoy!" The waiter cheered- their tone almost cheering me up. Almost.

"Thank you." I responded as my date immediately started to dig in.

I nervously started eating my food, trying not to lose my shit at this man.

I never had any luck with any dates- all the men that I ever got were so rude and- ronchy- of course- they were all incredibly handsome- that's all I could pull. But each and every one of them-

Insufferable.

"So- got any plans for Halloween?" He said with a mouth full. "I'm gonna host a drinking party and we're probably gonna watch the game."

"Halloween?" I said, surprised.

I had to think for a moment, remembering that Halloween was this upcoming Monday.

I never celebrated Halloween. My parents never let me. They said that it was just a stupid day to dress up in dollar store costumes and get candy from weird strangers. I mean...they werent wrong- but- I guess all my friends would always go out trick or treating- and they'd always ask me to come.

And I never could.

I kind of hated Halloween for that- and my parents.

"No. Halloween is for children. I'll probably just turn off my porch light and watch a scary movie. If you even call that "doing anything"." I sighed.

He laughed at me, nearly choking on his food. "Well- yeah it's for kids but like- you don't like- go out for a drink or something?" He laughed.

"Nope. Just by myself." I responded.

"Well you could join me. It ain't a party if you don't got a lot of people." He laughed.

I stiffened up, "O-Oh no it's fine really, I'm fine on my own." I chuckled nervously.

"Aw common I insist! How bout tonight I give you a tour round the house for the party huh?"

Take me home to his place in the first date- smooth.

"Im-"

"Besides- don't want a pretty girl like you all alone to fend for herself at night- you never know what could happen to ya~" he laughed.

I stood up abruptly, taking a deep breath. "Excuse me, I have to go to the bathroom real quick." I exclaimed.

"O-Oh ok..."

I quickly walked away from the table, speeding through the fancy restaurant and into the bathroom. I pushed the doors wide open and ran to the mirrors looking at my annoyed face.

I gotta get outta here- this guys probably gonna kidnap me if I don't go home with him tonight- AND if I don't accept his stupid football party invitation...

I looked up at the small rectangle window lined against the ceiling of the bathroom, the starry night sky looking down at me in my hopeless state.

Fuck this shit.

I walked over to the window and pulled it open with a strong pull, it swung open, bumping the ceiling before latching in place, the cool fall air trickling into the bathroom. I pulled myself up and through the window, just barely being able to pull myself up and over and onto the soft grass outside the restaurant. I let out a long sigh, fixing my hair and casually walking around the restaurant and onto the sidewalk.

I kicked off the grass stuck to my heels and pulled out my phone, scanning through all my messages and notifications as I walked my stupid ass home.

I sighed, wrapping my arms around myself as the cold fall air started to make me shiver.

Leaves blew by me and the wind howled as the crickets chirped and the moon lit up the whole town. I had to say- it was pretty- cold, but pretty.

I never liked it here in this small town- it was just a suburb to the big city a couple miles away. Everyone here- knew each other- and everyone hated me because I came from a rich family.

But I can fend for myself!

Just like- how my dad bought my house...and pays the bills...and gives me grocery money...and...gives me money whenever I ask.

Uh- I cook though! Yeah- I fend for myself.

I nodded to myself, stuffing my phone in my purse and pulling my heels off to walk bare foot- it was far more comfortable than walking on 4 inches to be honest...

The wind let out another terrible howl- just hardly masking the sound of echoing foot steps behind mine. I stopped, looking back, but there was nothing there. That horrible dates words played in my head and I could help but panic.

I quickly started to jog, my feet smacking the cement as I was nearly on the street my house was located on.

The footsteps seemed to follow but no one to show for it- I felt my heart race as I started sprinting to my house.

I quickly ran to the door, ripping my keys out of my purse and unlocking the door with a yelp, slamming it behind me.

I stopped, thinking for a few moments. I peered out the window- no one.

I laughed at my dramatic reaction. That weird guy I met on Timber had me on edge. I let out a long sigh and stripped of my clothes, messing up my neatly done hair and getting into the shower.

What a terrible night- let's hope Halloween isn't this bad....... it just might be honestly...
