VIOLET'S POV
I'm so bored it isn't even funny. Louis had to go to a signing. Deanna's shut up in her room talking to God knows who. Ryan won't answer his freaking phone. And the other girls went shopping. Typical them, but now I have nothing to do. I'm going to go harass Deanna to see if she has any ideas.
Energized now that I have a plan, I bound up the stairs. I'm about to go into Deanna's room when I hear Louis' name. Curious, I leave my hand on the door handle and press my ear to the wood, listening to the muffled conversation.
"Louis, it's Deanna." she says, and I can hear the seriousness in her voice. What is this? Deanna being serious? Something's up, and it's pretty dang big. There's a pause as I assume he says something.
"I have some news about Ryan, an you may or may not like it." she says, and any intention I have of surprising her by jumping into the room disappears out the window. Why is she talking to my crush about my boyfriend, and why is she not coming to me with this first? Leaning closer, I press my ear harder to the door to try and catch every word of the conversation.
She takes a deep breath, then spills out a sentence, talking way too fast for me to catch what she's saying. I'm assuming Louis didn't catch it either because she lets out a little humorless chuckle, and I can hear the bed creak as I assume she resettles herself on the mattress. Taking another deep breath, she slows down enough to where I can understand her.
Her next words rock my world. He wouldn't... Would he? How does she even know?
I burst through the door, ignoring my former intention of quietly eavesdropping. Deanna turns at the noise of the door being slammed open, and sees me standing in the doorway.
"Lou, I gotta go. Good luck at the signing." she says, before hanging up the phone and tossing it onto one of the many beanbag chairs in her room. I feel a tear slip down my cheek. Deanna motions me toward the bed and I slowly go and sit next to her.
"Why?" I ask, and she understands my question. "Vi... I didn't want you to find out like this. I called Louis so that maybe he could help me let you down easy. Or at least easier." she says, giving me a huge hug. I return it, knowing that she did what's best for me. She's the best friend I could ask for.
"How do you know?" I ask a while later, finally sitting up and wiping the tears from my eyes. She sighs, running a hand through her hair as she begins the story.
"So a couple days ago, I was walking to my locker at school. You know how I'm way in the back corner by the gym right?" she confirms, and I nod. "Well, I was back there getting some stuff I needed for homework when I heard a slam against the lockers around the corner from mine. I was kind of curious, so I went and looked. The people there must've heard me coming though, because when I rounded the corner they were already running away. I caught a glimpse of them though, and it looked a lot like Ryan and Megan."
I shuddered. Megan Anderson was the biggest slut in school. She had fake, pin straight blonde hair and muddy green eyes, and she had a reputation of stealing boyfriends. I haven't really had a lot to do with her before, but I've heard plenty of stories that made me steer way clear of her.
"Megan? Of all people..." I say, bursting out into a fresh round of tears. Deanna sits with me, patting my back as I cry.
When I cry myself out a second time, I hiccup a few times before gesturing for Deanna to continue her story. I know that she wouldn't come to me or Louis without definite proof. She grins at how well I know her before continuing.
"So the next day I asked around a bit, and apparently, they've been hanging out a lot since you left, which is a big part of the reason he hasn't been answering his phone. And one of the freshman told me that she's seen them walking around multiple times holding hands and kissing. He's been telling people that he's going to break up with you soon. Like, at the dance soon." she says, and my heart drops. Next week is our homecoming dance, which is being held on Ryan and my six month anniversary. Ryan had asked me to go with him months ago, and we were both really looking forward to it. It was going to be our special night, and if Ryan had ended things with me then... Let's just say it wouldn't have been pretty.
"How can he do this to me? I thought he loved me..." I trailed off as I realized he doesn't love me. Not anymore.
