IT WAS LOVE at first sight. I couldn't stop thinking about the time I had skimmed by him in the hall way, how my hand swiftly touched his.

I wrote that in my journal at nearly three in the morning.

I bite my lip as I think about him, a habit I've had since a child. I couldn't stop asking Kevin questions about this handsome guy.

"How long have you known him?" I tilt my head.

"Uh— let me think." Kevin says. "Around a year. He's kinda short, and... he likes horse races? I guess."

I internally squealz

"When's the next time you're hanging out with him?" I plead as he pulls out his phone and delivers a text to someone.

"Sis, hold it" He pauses for a moment, deadpanning at me. "Why do you wanna see him so badly?"

I roll my eyes, hiding how anxious the question made me. "You know. No reason," I shrug.

His phone buzzes. I look at him. "Oh, he texted me back."

I jump up. He's texting? I bolt to where my brother is, peaking to read the message from his friend.

"You damn stalker" I hear my brother mumble
I frown at him.

On my way.

The text read.

My eyebrows shut up. He's coming right now? I look at the text before that, noticing Kevin had invited him as I was going all curious about him. "I have to go get ready." I say, as calmly as possible— but then leap off of his bed and run to my room as quickly as I can.

I'VE NEVER BEEN more excited to see a boy in my entire life.

In my nineteen years, boys were just stupid. Much like Kevin, they were sloppy, ugly, and usually annoying. But I was currently running my hands through my hair and pressing down my clothes to make sure there's not an inch of wrinkles or frizz.

"Do you know how crazy you look right now, Lua?" My friend looks at me with a smile, and I furrow my brows and roll my eyes.

"I know I look crazy, Azure." I sigh. "But this is the first time I've shown interest in a guy!"

"You hate guys!"

"It's different this time. There's something about him."

Azure deadpans, then laughs. "If you're going crazy over a boy, I guess it's true. There must be something different about him."

I find my cheeks going pink as I think about him. The way he looked at me.

"I mean— do you even know his name?"

I nod. "It's Diego. Diego Lainez. Kevin told me that. But I don't know much of anything else, just a few minor things."

She blinks at me through the screen with a blank stare. Suddenly, the doorbell rings. My eyes widen. "I think he's here! I'll talk to you later, Azure." I blow her a kiss through the screen, and before she can even reply, I hang up.

"Alright, don't act weird around him." Kevin nudges me, and I stare at him in disgust. He thinks so lowly of me.

"You know, I'm inviting some friends over so it won't be awkward." I let him know, playing with my hands as we edge closer to the door, knowing Diego's on the other side.

His eyebrows raise. "Is Azure coming?"

I look at him, confused. "What? No. She has homework to do. She'll be here tomorrow."

I see his expression falter, but he fixes it as he opens the door, revealing a couple of boys.

I fix up my hair, and his friends look at me. "Who's that?" One asks, a smirk on his face. He looks me up and down, and I scowl.

Kevin shoves him lightly, as if he should already know. "Dude, that's my sister."

I attempt to not make eye contact with Diego.

One of them approaches me, then puts his hands in his pockets. "So," He looks down at me. "What's your name?"

I furrow my eyebrows, immediately feeling a sense of ick from his voice and excessive use of cologne. "Melanie. But most people call me Lua.

He nods and licks his lips as I grab a water bottle from the table

I'm disturbed.

Honestly. I'm disturbed.

Suddenly, the doorbell rings one more time.
