Chapter 4: Found Dead
I walked into school on Thursday dazed because the reality of what could have happened to me on Sunday still hadn't sunk in.
"Ms Celeste Harper?" I barely noticed when my name was called for morning registration by my form tutor, Miss Seville. "Celeste! Stop with the daydreaming!" she yelled when I failed to answer.
"Uh.... Sorry, Miss Seville" I stuttered in reply, I was thinking about that girl from the park way too much lately.
I nearly fell out of my chair when the bell rang two minutes later telling us to get up off our butts and go to class, which for me was Art. Lucky me!
..........
Art was he most boring lesson ever, we simply had to sit there and watch Mr Jonathan draw a vase. Even worse he kept us after the bell rang! All because of Sali Marks, (it's actually spelled Sally but she thinks it looks cooler like that), she's the top cheerleader; the girl everyone wants to be, well not me I wouldn't want to be like her if she were the last person on Earth.
Anyway, the rest of the day flew by and before I knew it I was on my way home. I caught the bus to Gridlock Road again like I always do but instead of walking straight ahead, the way that would take me past the park, I decided to go the long way round, sure it would be an extra ten to fifteen minutes but it's safer than going past that unearthly child.
I had walked for about five minutes when I got a text:
WHERE ARE YOU??? I'M GOING OUT OF MY MIND WITH WORRY! PLEASE CALL ME ASAP!!! - Mum
Ah... I sorta, kinda didn't tell Mum I was going the long way. Oops.
So I called her, not a good conversation. At all.
( *Phone Call* )
"H...Hi Mum"
"Celeste? Is that you? You are in so much trouble young lady! You better be back home in the next five minutes or else!"
"Wait! Mum, let me explain, I... uh ..... I took the bus to Gridlock Road as usual and... er.... well, the bus broke down so I had to get off half way to Gridlock Road and walk the rest of the way"
"Okay, hmm, I don't know if I should let you off for that because you should have still called me"
"I know, Mum, I know but I totally forget. Oh, did I mention that I took a wrong turn when I tried to turn onto Gridlock Road from Junction Avenue? Long story short, I'm taking the long way home so I don't know how long I'll be, shouldn't be longer than twenty minutes, tops"
"Fine, but Celeste please be careful, going the long way means you have to cut through a lot of alleyways"
"I know, but trust me I know this town like the back of my hand, I'll be fine"
"Okay, bye Celeste, I love you"
"I know you do"
( *End of phone call* )
That phone call in itself lasted about five minutes so I had to run to get home. After a few streets I stopped suddenly, I don't know why, my brain knew I had to get moving because it was the middle of winter and the dark was closing in quickly. For some reason my feet just wouldn't correspond and I ended up cutting through an alley way which lead me straight to the park. It was as if I was powerless and I was under some sort of spell.
When I came to a halt at long last at the park I came back to my senses and realised that I had lost another five minutes coming here, I was just about to run off in the direction of home when a strange sound grabbed my attention.
BEEP BEEP.
It was my phone I had a text; Celeste, where are you? - Mum. I guess cutting through to get to the park had cost me time.
I'm at the park, I cut through some alleyways because it will be quicker than going round the outskirts - Celeste
I don't know why I lied, I didn't mean to, it seemed as the truth when I sent it. I was about to run home before Mum went bonkers but there was a strange sound that grabbed my attention.
"I am Amaris, Child of The Moon. My body shall die today, however my soul will move on to the next person who falls under my gaze..."
I...It was that girl again, the girl that I saw in the park the other day. The Child of The Moon... what does that mean? My thought were interrupted by the child's voice again, but this time it wasn't out loud, it was in my head. As the voice in my head spoke I saw the girl and it was as if I was transfixed, I couldn't move.
"You! Celeste, it is you who shall take my soul, you will obey my master's commands as the Child of the Heavens"
My conscience new exactly what was going on, it was screaming at me to run but my brain was bewitched by the sight that behold my eyes. Amaris had flew up into the sky her blonde hair floating around her, her deep blue eyes shining and there was a holy white light glowing around her.
Then, in an instant, Amaris lay on the ground her hair and eyes now coal black. At the same time I heard a deep, mysterious voice;
"Amaris' body has left but her soul shall possess you as the Child of The Heavens"
