The Mate She Never Thought She'd Have

He instantly dropped me to the ground. Animalistic urges poured into my body as he gripped my waist. My instincts told me to mark him.

My canines elongated as I pulled back and as I went for his neck, he was ripped away from my body. I growled thunderously, ready to kill who ever dared to intervene.

My blazing eyes found Xavier and Darren, who were holding him back. I continued growling and immediately pushed myself off the wall, but I was thrown back and held by the Alpha. Both me and my mate growled even louder.

"Father! Let go of my mate, she is mine!" My mate broke free of his pack mates' hold.

"Son, remember who she is! A filthy rogue! I will not have a rogue take a position as Luna until she has shown her loyalty! Do you not remember what they did to us! To this pack!"

My mate's eyes filled with pain as his father spoke. My growls became silent as I saw my mate's sorrow.

"Listen, I know nothing of what you are talking about, and I suggest you take your hands off of me Alpha." My mate's father glared murderously at me but roughly let go. I dropped two feet to the floor and landed on my feet.

For a moment everyone just stood there staring at me and my mate. But I grew restless and I growled out "Do I at least get to know my mate's name?"

My mate instantly shook out of his pain filled daze and as his eyes harden, he harshly said "My name is Logan, what is your name, rogue."

I stood there, internally shocked that the werewolf before me could look at me with so much hate. Hate for what rogues have done to them. Hate for what he believed me to be.

I quickly folded my arms together and told him "My name is Arden, I'm here because your Alpha has questions about who I am."

Tense silence quickly filled the room, so I continued " Xavier here made me an offer of helping you all with your rogue problems since I managed to take out Derek Cain."

My mate quickly looked at me in shock and then growled to his father "How is this she-wolf able to take down the number one threat to the werewolf community in one night, when our pack could barely catch more than his underlings!"

I quickly smirked and stated "It's because you play by rules, and rogues don't. Plus my ability far surpasses yours."

Everyone quickly growled out their rage at hearing their pack being disrespected by rogue she-wolf.

"Enough! It seems this situation has been guided by the moon goddess herself. Son, not only do you have a strong she-wolf as a mate, but she single handily subdued Derek Cain. Daniel and Danielle's report is proof of that. He can now answer to his crimes in front the Alpha's Council." The alpha quickly defused the tension in the room as they are reminded that their lives are in the hands of a Goddess who would rather see me burn.

"Arden is still a rogue and she will be monitored until we believe she is no longer a threat to the pack. She will not associate with regular pack members and she will stay in the West Wing with other high ranked members to keep her in check. Son, if you wish she can stay with you."  The alpha's obvious distrust was welcoming, considering if I'm ever accepted into the pack I won't have to worry about possible threats from within. unfortunately the face of my mate shows obvious uncertainty about having a rogue for a mate.

I quickly spoke for my mate. " Sir, I will gladly comply with these rules. As long as I'm given the chance to prove myself worthy of this pack." My mind is a jumbled mess as I'm trying to come to terms with the idea of me having a mate. Having the Goddess of the Night turn her back on her hellhounds effectively cut us off from ever having the possibility of having a mate. Hellhounds didn't receive human form until after my father gained control of them and fused them with the rotted human souls in the Underworld.

I continued on as my mate's face turned impassive. " and if it's alright with my mate, I'm requesting my own room. It's obvious that my mate's inner turmoil is causing him to be indecisive about what to do with me. I wish to make this process as easy as possible."

I pushed away my instinct to jump the man before me and realized that to gain the love of this man is prove to him who I can become. I can no longer be a murdering train wreck, hoping to run away from my father. With the obvious strength of this pack, I could teach them how to defeat my father's army. And hopefully they will accept me for what I am.

Logan briefly looked into my eyes and I saw the relief at being able to take the time in understanding who I am. "Thank you Arden, you'll be in a room across from mine. I'll be keeping an eye on you. You will shadow me through out my day so not only can I keep an eye on you, but we can hopefully allow the mate bond to grow and turn you into a proper Luna."

I growled at the thought of becoming a mere Luna. My dominance far surpasses the rank of a Luna and he'll be in for a rude awakening when he realizes I cannot be a docile pet.

His eyes widened in curiosity at my growl and a smirk appeared on his face as though to taunt me.

The alpha quickly intervened when he saw me take a step forward. " Enough of this pissing contest! Xavier. Darren. Escort Arden to her room and have Daniel bring her stuff. Afterwards, I want a debrief on the mission."

I turned to follow Xavier and Darren, when the alpha continued. " Arden, tomorrow morning you'll be coming back to my office so both Logan and I can hear your story. Just because you are Logan's mate will not excuse you of being a rogue. You will not mark each other until you prove you loyalty to not just Logan, but to the pack as well."

I looked at my mate and saw his agreement with this. The pain behind his eyes were still visible and I was going to make it my mission to find out what exactly happened to this pack.

As I left the room, I instantly felt the longing of not being able to be with my mate. This bond could cause more troubles if I'm not careful.

Right before the office door closed, I quietly heard my mate ask

"father, I don't think I have the strength to kill my own mate. How can we prevent it from happening again?"
