Elizabeth Swan was absolutely riveting. Everybody around her loved her. The way she carried herself was something everyone envied. She always had a smile plastered across her face. It was like she was a ray of sunshine. Nothing ever seemed to bring the girl down. That was until Jasper Hale left her. It was stupid, really. Elizabeth knew it was.
She swore up and down once that she'd never touch drugs. No matter the circumstances. Elizabeth was completely repulsed by the idea. However, when her heartbreak began to become too much to handle. She found solitude in marijuana. It was a remedy she never thought she'd grow dependent on. It wasn't too long after that Elizabeth discovered the art of being crossfaded. She loved it.
Elizabeth hid it well enough that her father never noticed the change in his daughter's behavior. All Charlie Swan had noticed was Elizabeth leaving the house a bit more often than normal. Some nights Elizabeth would have to sneak inside the house. She refused to let her father catch her in such a state. Even then he wouldn't notice due to being distracted by Bella's state of mind.
When Elizabeth would leave the house to go to any party that was going on. Most of these parties would be bonfires. Seeing as the town of Forks was pretty small. She had gone to a couple of house parties, but they weren't as frequent as bonfires. At these parties, Elizabeth constantly was crossfaded. It never mattered that she had school in less than seven hours. On the nights that she was unable to get home, she would tell her father that she was spending the night at Angela's house. It wasn't long until she couldn't remember anything from the night before.
That was until she was sitting in her shared bathroom with a pregnancy test in hand. Her mind was combing through the events from the last two months. The only detail that Elizabeth could seemingly remember was being guided somewhere by Carson Adams. Even then the memory was foggy.
It felt like time was going ungodly slow as Elizabeth sat on the floor with her back against the wall. Her eyes were glued shut as she awaited the timer on her phone to go off. She had a million thoughts running through her brain at the mere thought of the test coming back positive.
"Elizabeth," Charlie Swan muttered from behind the door. He had been standing behind for at least five minutes since Elizabeth locked herself inside.
Charlie Swan knew almost everything that went on in his daughter's lives. Well, Elizabeth's more so than Bella's. He noticed right away when his daughter stopped going out and began to lay in bed dreading waking up. Renee had been the same when she was pregnant with the twins. Charlie had been the one to go out and get his daughter a test. It was defiantly not his proudest moment as a father.
When Charlie returned with the pregnancy in hand. Elizabeth couldn't hold back any information. She told her father everything from the very beginning. The first thing on Charlie's mind was to scold his daughter. But the pained look on her face made him realize that he was at fault as well. He had been so focused on Bella. That he hadn't even noticed that his daughter was using.
"I don't wanna look at it, daddy," Elizabeth whispered on the verge of tears when the alarm finally went off. Her eyes were puffy from the endless crying she had done while taking the test.
"Why don't you open the door, huh?" Charlie reasoned now leaning against the frame of the door. He felt himself take in a deep breath as he heard shuffling on the other side of the door. Soon enough the sound of the door unlocking revealed a disheveled Elizabeth. Neither of them said anything as Charlie brought his daughter into his arms. "It'll be alright," was all he said running his hand up and down her back.
"But it won't," Elizabeth's muffled voice said as she refused to lift her face from his chest. Charlie was at a loss for words. He stood there trying to do his best in comforting his daughter. "Will you check it?"
At those words, the two pulled apart. Charlie took a second to look at his daughter. He all but nodded taking in a deep breath and walked into the bathroom. Elizabeth took the time and went to her bedroom. Sitting on the bed, Elizabeth pulled the ends of her sweater over her hands.
"It's positive," Charlie muttered walking into the room with the test in hand. Oh, how he wished that her mother was here. Elizabeth felt herself choke in a sob bringing her hand up to her mouth. "I'll be with you every step, Ellie," Charlie finally said taking a seat beside his daughter.
Elizabeth glanced at her father with watery eyes. That was all Elizabeth needed to know in that moment. She was going to be okay. Even if this was the last thing she wanted.
"I'm scared," Elizabeth finally said dropping her hand from her face and bringing her knees up to her chest. Charlie didn't say a word but put his hand on her shoulder.
"We will talk more in the morning, huh? I think you should get some rest." Charlie said motioning to the bed. "C'mon,"
With that, Charlie tucked Elizabeth into bed and kissed her forehead trying to give her some comfort.
