"Ay,qué quieres, idiota?" I fold my arms over my chest as my brother approaches me.
"¿A quién estas hablondo una idiota?" He bucks at me, and I put my hands on my hips. I eventually notice he's surrounded by his friends— who all start saying "Oooo!" and laughing.
"Mom brought some food," I say, offering a smile to ease off the use of the word idiota．
He rolls his eyes, then says, "Okay. Whatever—"
Before he can say anything else, I slap him across the face. "Ow!" He exclaims, moving his hand to his cheek, the place that I hit. He pouts, and I back up. His friends snicker.
"Pendejo." I mutter, backing away. As I'm doing so, my back hits someone's chest.
I turn around, prepared to apologize. But when I do a 180, locking eyes with the person I bumped into, I find that my words are caught in my throat.
He looks down at me, as I look up at him. He's only about three inches taller than me, and for some reason, the way he looks at me causes my breath to hitch.
I walk past him swiftly, finding my loss of words embarrassing. And I can feel his gaze grow on my back.
And the more I feel his eyes burning into my skin, the faster I walk.
