School Day (2)

David awoke the next morning with aching feet. After he had found out that it was Sunday, he hung out with his friends and played a good game of tackle football.

David filled with joy as he remembered the extraordinary play he had made in neighborhood football. It was the very first play of the game. Both teams flipped a coin to see who would be kicking and receiving. David's team had won the toss and chose to receive the ball.

When the ball was kicked David's friend, Jack, ran underneath the ball and caught it in both hands. He began to run the ball down the grassy field as the other team charged full speed at him. He only made it about twenty yards before he went down.

David huddled around and listened to the next play. David would be a receiver. They lined up and the quarterback yelled "HIKE!" David broke formation and charged forward with tremendous speed.

As he ran down the field he turned towards the quarterback. "Over here!" He screamed. The quarter back scanned the field looking for the slightest of openings. He finally rested his eyes on David. He lobbed the ball at him. David kept his eyes on the ball and after a few timed paces the ball landed perfectly into his hands.

David glanced to his side to see the defense gaining speed. He estimated that he was about forty five yards from the touchdown. He was nearly there when one of the defense dove forward. With a valiant effort, David jumped over the arms of the opposing team player. David's team cheered as he ran past the trees that marked the end zone.

"Touch down!" Everyone on his team cheered.

With a play like that it was a sure sign that his team will take grasp of sweet victory, and it was. His team won twenty one to fourteen. It was a tremendous game and a great way to end the summer.

Now that adrenaline has worn off the pain was excruciating. He waited at the bus stop playing with his iPod.

"There's the winner," came a voice. It was Jack. He had his plaid blue book bag around his back.

"Hey Jack," David said as he pocketed his iPod. "It was a fun game wasn't it?"

"Yeah, it was the best!" He replied. Jack was a kind person. He was skinny with dirty blond hair. They both stood at the bus stop waiting.

While they where planted to the spot innocently, David could not hear the footsteps behind him. Suddenly something jabbed him in the sides. He yelped and jumped forward.

"I got you!"

David turned around to see his friend Sara. She was a pretty looking girl with brunette hair. Her curvy figure complimented her well. She smiled with joy, obviously amused by what she had done. He found himself starting to blush and get hot so he quickly turned away before they could notice.

"I got you," she repeated and started doing a victory dance.

"No you didn't," David responded defensively.

"Yes, she did," Jack said. He too was amused at David's reaction.

"Whatever," David mumbled defeatedly. Sara had finished her dance and now stood still.

"I am nervous about heading to high school," Sara verbalized aloud.

"I am sure it will be fine. I mean we felt the same way when we went to middle school," David said even though he too was uneasy about the whole 'New School' idea.

A new school meant new hallways to memorize, where classes are, and the most important, at least to David, was the location of the cafeteria.

The roar of an engine could be heard in the distance which could only belong to the bus. They all turned to face the end of the street.

"Well here comes the bus," Jack said miserably. "Time to say good bye to summer and hello Hell, I mean school."

They all giggled as they loaded onto the bus and took their seats. Since boys were not allowed to sit in the same seat as girls, David sat in the same seat as Jack while Sara sat in the seat to their left.

They were the three musketeers, and nothing would ever separate them. The bus drove further down the street to pick up more students while they sat there.

"So, I heard you guys had a good game of football yesterday," Sara said breaking the silence.

"Heck yeah we did!" Jack responded excitedly. "This fella right here lead us to victory," he continued while pointing at David.

"I guess," David uttered as he started to blush. "This guy is the one that caught the kick off," he said drawing attention to Jack.

"True, that was a good catch," he admitted.

"Sounds fun I wish I should have went and watched you guys play," Sara said as she turned her head so she can look out the window. "Oh no."

"What?" David asked.

"It's him." Sara replied. David didn't even have to look to know who it was. Daniel Crowe. The biggest douchebag in David's grade. He shoves and picks on the smallest kids, but he doesn't stop there. If you are not on his side then he will pick on you.

"Hey, morons!" He yelled as he got onto the bus. David, finally fed up with his crap, stood up and faced him as he passed by. "Hey, douchebag!" He yelled at him.

Daniel was shocked for a moment but quickly regained his senses. "How dare you disrespect me!" Daniel shoved him into the seat and David fell on top of Jack and hit his head on the window.

The bus driver could not hear the commotion because of the noise level of the other students on the bus. David sat down still grasping the back of his skull.

"Sorry, Jack." David said as he turned towards his friend.

"It's ok. What got into you?" He asked, concerned about his friend's health.

"I guess I just got tired of his crap," David remarked.

"I hear you, bro, but you can't just say that to him and not expect him to do anything about it."

"He could have seriously hurt you," Sara added.

"I know." David said. They continued to talk, and after about twenty minutes of riding the bus, they had finally arrived at school grounds.

"Well, here we are," Sara said still not excepting the fact that school had started. They all arose from their seats and began to walk down the aisle, nearing the bus doors. When they departed the bus, they said their goodbyes and began to walk towards the doors of their new school.
