Trigger Warning: Death via poisoning

At the stroke of midnight, a pale, tall blonde female vampire was resting comfortably on the couch at an apartment in the heart of Detroit, Michigan. Her name was Eve and she was awaiting her husband, Adam's return from the local blood bank, collecting bags of O-negative blood they both coveted so much. She has her hair up in a wild ponytail and wears nothing but a robe. "What do I have to do to have some blood around here?" Eve sighed, muttering to herself. She then got up and went over to the fridge in the kitchen to pour herself a small glass of blood. Little did she know that the blood is somehow tainted, most likely unintentionally when it was originally packaged. After pouring herself a glass, Eve walked back to the couch to continue waiting for Adam.

As she sat down, she took a sip of the blood, then she started to cough it up violently, feeling a wave of nausea washing over her. Eve ran towards the bathroom to vomit before she collapsed at the door. She curled up in agony as her breathing became raspy until her body gave in. Eve eventually succumbed to the poisoned blood as she lies there, limp and motionless as if she went into a deep slumber. Soon enough, Adam, now wearing blue scrubs, walked into the apartment.

"Eve, I'm home." He called out for his wife. There was silence. Adam sensed something's wrong as it is unlike Eve to not responding to her husband's call upon his return. He started looking everywhere as he repeatedly called for Eve. Adam started to panic as he ran into the bedroom. Once he got there, he stopped frozen in his tracks to find Eve on the floor near the bathroom door. "Oh, fuck! Fuck, no!" Adam choked up as tears began to form in his eyes. He rushed towards Eve, knelt to the ground, and cradled her in his arms. Adam shakes her frantically in an effort to wake her up. "Eve. Come on, darling. Wake up! Open your eyes." Nothing. Adam shakes her again, more intensely, "This is not a game, Eve. You're frightening me. You must wake up, please! I'm begging you! Wake up, my love! Please!" Still no response from Eve. Adam becomes increasingly terrified as he held her close to his chest sobbing.

Then, Adam took Eve to the hospital that specializes in the care of vampires. He waited outside the room where Eve was being examined, worried for her. After a long while of waiting, the doctor walked out of the room to deliver the difficult news. "Despite our best efforts, there was nothing else we could do to save your wife. I'm sorry." Adam then broke down. "Can I say goodbye to her?" The doctor nodded and let him come into Eve's room. Adam walked over to Eve's side and sat right next to her in a chair by the bed. He takes her hand in his and sighed heavily through tears. "Goodbye, Evie. It really pains me to see you go so soon. I don't know if I can ever move on having just lost you. No matter what, I'll try really hard, and be glad that I'm still here. I know how much you always want me to be happy, but I'll try to do that, too. For you." Adam took Eve's hand up to his lips and kissed it tenderly. "I love you," he whispered as his final farewell to his beloved wife. He rested her hand against his forehead before he got up from the bedside chair. After Adam left the room, the doctor comforted him. "I'm very sorry for your loss, Adam. If I may, was there any contaminated blood in your apartment by any chance?" The vampire replied, "I don't believe I have. I was panicked at the time to know for certain." "Well, we have found that there was some of it in Eve's system, which was why we suspected accidental blood poisoning as the cause. So, I would strongly advise you to get rid of any traces of tainted blood as soon as possible."

About 15 minutes later, Adam returned to the apartment and started to look around. He noticed the blood bag on the counter and went towards it. He saw that the blood itself is tainted as the doctor had suspected it to be the cause of Eve's death. Soon after a while, Adam carefully disposed of the contaminated blood before he went back inside, shutting the door behind him. He leaned his back against the door and slid down, burying his face in his hands. As time passed since then, Adam fell into a deep depression from the loss of his lover, making him the only lover left alive.
