oh how the day was gloomy. the rain plagued the empty mind that you had, of course it had been empty, with the overstimulation of working hard, and the social norms of being "normal" to customers, why wouldn't you be gloomy? the rain also poured on and on, and cloudy weather does tend to make people mopey.
although, there was one person who wasn't mopey that day. lee felix. the man who is usually compared to as human sunshine. the ray of sunshine that parted the once known gloomy day, who you happened to be best friends with.
you knew each other since elementary school, and now, the spring of early adulthood spread upon both of you, and now you share an apartment.
you walked up the stairs to the dark building, looking even darker due to the shabby surroundings and gloomy atmosphere, let out a small yawn, and open the door using your keys to the building. the door creaks open, and at this point you almost wanted to flop on the couch and call it a night, however, a familiar smell wafted through the air.
"oh ! finally, you're home, i was waiting for what it felt like hours !" it was sunshine, he parted the clouds.
a smile lifted on your face as the freckled man approached you, hugging you and placing a soft kiss on the cheek out of pure platonic affection. you let out a soft smile, replacing his lips with your hand, stroking the side of your somewhat wet ( from the rain ) cheek.
"please ! come over here, i made you something." the blonde boy led you over to the counter, pulling out the stool and letting you sit comfortably.
this surely wasn't the first or last time felix would surprise you with sweets, he never had no intention of stopping anyways. he usually baked cookies, or on really lucky days his special brownies, the coveted things would only last a few days, as both of you would devour them as you watched anime together, but today, it was neither cookies, nor the infamous "binge brownies."
"i made you some cake, i haven't made it for a while, and wanted to surprise you." felix turned around whilst speaking, opening the well timed oven. he stuck a toothpick in, analyzing every wooden tip before getting his pastel blue oven mits and taking the fresh cake out of the oven.
the smell paraded through the air, the strong sense of vanilla. it was the most purest smell of the day, especially to contradict with the strong smell of pizza grease from your job.
"when it's done cooling, would you want to help me decorate?" he placed the delicate cake onto the glass plate, a small smile arising from felix's lips.
all he needed was a nod yes.
--
some time passed, both of you, now intertwined on the soft velvet couch, peeked your heads up every 2 seconds practically, wondering when the cake would finally cool. the suspense was killing the both of you.
"i'm gonna go check on the cake." felix finally gets up, tucking you into the blanket after disturbing the comfortable snuggling.
he lightly tapped the fluffy cake, the smell of vanilla wafting through the air once more.
"it's ready y/n, whenever you wanna get up, let's decorate." he twinge of excitement was detected in your roommates voice, and you shot up from the couch, almost knocking over the very elaborate dnd setup on the main table.
the next thirty minutes was spent making the whipped strawberry icing, the soft and cloudlike substance that would top of the already masterpiece of a cake.
"ready?" felix asked, handing you a piping bag. a nod and, a frenzy ensued.
both wanted the cake to look aesthetically pleasing, sure, but the wild actions of both of you ensured chaos in the kitchen. it certainly didn't help that felix's playful side was out, he kept dabbing the pink icing onto your cheeks and nose, and you couldn't help but attack him back equally with frosting.
eventually, it got done, but at the cost of both of your hoodies and beautiful faces.
"worth it." felix giggled, running his finger through some icing on his black hoodie and sticking his finger into his mouth, you did the same.
the cake itself was delicious, probably the best thing he's ever made so far. the sheer moistness and sponge-like texture melted in ones mouth, and the strawberry icing only complemented the taste, nevermind the aroma.
"hey, felix?" you ask as he takes another small slice out of the cake for you. he looks up at you with his brown eyes, glistening with the galaxy in them. he purses his lips, waiting to fill this still with some words.
"thank you, this-that-" you gesture to the slice of cake he holds, "made my day so much better, so thank you, so, so much." you look down with a satisfied smile, only enjoying the piece of dessert before you.
"of course y/n, you know i'd do anything for you, even pull the moon and the stars if you so asked." he responded, serving the piece of cake with a light-hearted chuckle. you raise an eyebrow.
"ah, thank you, but i never asked for cake." you smile sweetly, taking another forkful of cake and happily munching away.
"you may have never asked, but you received anyways." felix narrowed his eyes, crossing his arms with annoyance.
"i said thank you lix, what more could i tell you?"
felix turned to face you, "love ya, y/n."
to this you smiled, taking yet another bite of succulent cake.
"love you too, lee felix."
