Burning light (task force an child reader)

Desert night

It hit night and you had finally arrived in the desert .The humvee came to a halt and everyone started to grab their stuff . There were only a few Blankets and some MREs to last for a while . You had fallen asleep on ghosts shoulder during the ride . When you passed the first hour of being in the humvee you put on your headphones because you were tired of soaps banter.
Ghost gently nudged you and you slowly started to wake up. You yawned and stretched a bit and rubbed your eyes .
" we're here , get your stuff ."
Ghost said gently while getting out of the vehicle.
You gave him a silent affirmative and you grabbed your pack and put it on your back and slung your rifle over your shoulder . You stepped out of the humvee and you were hit with the cold breeze of upper New Mexico . You saw Riley walking around , kicking the sand up as he did so. You felt the uneven surface of the sand and it was already in your boots . You never minded sand but when the gritty sand was in your boots it was a tad but uncomfortable.
" Where are we headed ?"
You asked while trying to shake out the sand from your boots .
" we're going to go north a bit and see where the muerte rojas are ."
Alejandro said while fixing his gear.
" We'll leave this here and head on foot ."
Soap said while gesturing to the humvee .
" We'll start walking and camp until morning."
Ghost turned and looked at you and looked at the others.you couldn't exactly see ghosts eyes because he had put on eye paint . It wasn't uncommon for him to put on eye paint but you couldn't really see his eyes well in the dark.
It kinda made you think about how Batman wears eye makeup with his mask. The thought always made you giggle a bit and look at ghost .
Riley walked next to Ghost while ghost scanned the area trying to be as cautious as possible .
You were between Alejandro and soap while Price traveled in the back with Gaz and Ghost and Riley were in the front leading . you looked around and you took off your mask letting it hang around your neck by the strap . it didn't bother you but you had to hold your rifle . you werent gonna let yourself be off guard . not after what had happened last time . Ghost checks behind him every so often to make sure you were okay and you shred a few conversations with soap and mess around a tad bit.
Three hours had passed of walking in the cold desert and you finally came across a spot where you could set up camp.
'' alright soldiers, we set up camp and keep it moving once the sun comes up . ''
Ghost said while setting down his pack on the sand . you did the same as the other did and started taking out some things .
You took out two neatly folded metal rods and you opened them up and screwed them together tightly and threw a tarp over it to make a tent . The others offered to help you but you kindly declined and you put together your tent and put down another tarp on the bottom so you didn't really sleep on the gritty sand . Riley walked around and even came over to you to see what you were doing but then he just went and did his own thing and started digging holes kicking sand on soap. Soap had to shew off Riley but Riley had other plans and nipped at his ankles . He was still learning not to do that but he knew other things that could be way worse than just a nip.
'' you ok spook ?''
Price asked while sitting in the sand .
'' im okay just setting up .''
You said while throwing your stuff in your tent and getting out a thin blanket .
You propped up your rifle in the sand and made sure that safety was on and you sat and took out one of your knives along with a flashlight . you grabbed a mre and your water canteen and you gathered with the others and you started making your food . you messed around with the packaging and you got the pouch to heat up and you placed your food into the pouch to heat up your food . you were having some pasta with meat sauce and a side consisting of a pack of crackers and a squeeze tube of peanut butter to put on it. You put your food down to let it cook and while it did that you snacked on your peanut butter with your crackers .
(sorry to all my people out there allergic to peanut butter )
You munched on your snack and checked every few minutes up on your food.
Riley laid next to you and you stroked his back , petting him for a few . you gave him some peanut butter .
'' Hey tio soap , you don't need a parachute to go skydiving . you need a parachute to go skydiving twice .''
You said with a grin as you took your food out of the little pouch heater and opened up your bag of mush .  you felt the hot  steam made of your food and you looked at the thing you were gonna be eating for god knows how long . it wasn't the most appealing but at least it was edible .
'' you sure as hell got you dark humor from Ghost , at least it wasn't his bad dad jokes .''
Soap said while earning a glance from Ghost .
The other chuckled at soaps remarks and they all dug into their food and you did soon ''as well.
'' hey my joke lighten up the mood on missions .''
Ghost said as if he was being betrayed ...again.
'' bein friendly now ?''
Soap said sarcastically.
'' No i'm just holding back the urge to strangle you is all.''
Ghost said quietly , his voice deep and gruff.
You continued to eat your food until you saw Riley come up to you and he sat right in front of you giving you the puppy eyes .
'' you hungry huh .''
You got up from your little spot where you stood  and you went into the food bag and pulled out a metal bowl and a bag of dog food and you put some in the bowl and you set it down in front of riley.
'' i know this isn't the usual meal but this will do for now .''
You said while he quietly munched on his hard food.
You went back to your spot and you finished up your food and dug a hole and threw it in the hole and filled it back up. You saw Riley had finished his food and you gave him some water which he happily drank. You got up again and you placed his bowl back into the food bag and went and crawled into your tent wrapping yourself up in your blanket . Riley scurried over to you laying down next to you as well . you pet his head softly and you gave him a little good night kiss on top of his head and he rested his head on your leg . you gave him a soft smile and you looked to see the others still making small talks towards each other but Ghost looked at you every so often to make sure you were ok. It wasn't long until the boys retreated back to their tents and they got settled in for the night but they made sure to clean up their mess .
'' good night spook .''
Ghost said while he went to take the night shift .
Ghost never really slept and if he did it wasn't much because of the constant nightmares . you never knew about his past or backstory but you knew it had to be something from his past that kept bothering him.
'' Good night dad . luv you .''
'' i luv you too kiddo now get some rest .''
The other said good night to you and you did as well and you got settled in and made some room for Riley and you got comfortable and closed your eyes and went to sleep . you woke up to hear some rustling and you grabbed your knife quickly  and you shot up straight and looked out of your tent to see it was just Ghost.
'' sorry if i scared ya .''
Ghost said all the while reading your startled expression .
'' its fine, if it was some random guy i probably would thrown my knife at him .''
You said while putting your knife back in its casing. You excited your tent causing riley to wake up. He stretched his legs and made a little yawn and he got up slowly and walked over to you .
'' morning riley .''
You said while petting him.
'' get ready , we get moving in an hour and riley wake em up.''
Riley barked and he ran to soap tent first . It wasn't long until you saw soap being pulled out by his ankle by Riley .
'' alright alright im up !.''
Soap said and Riley let go and went to wake the others .
You laughed a little bit but then you got to taking apart your tent . you flooded up the metal rods and folded the tarps neatly and placed it back into your pack . you sat in the sand and saw the others wake up thanks to the help of Riley and you put your pack on and got your rifle and mask on . The others got their gear ready and packed their stuff up and you guys started moving . The sun was up fully and it wasn't long till you felt the hot scorching sun of the Mexican desert . you walked with riley and you had put triple layered socks on his fett to make sure his feet don't get burnt from the hot sand. After 3 hours of walking in a peaceful silence it got extremely hot . sweat dripped down your neck and your breathing got heavier. The others noticed your struggle and tried to help but you wanted to focus on the mission.
'' guys i'll live—wait look over there .''
You said as you pointed to see tire marks in the sand nearby.
'' Someone was drinking through here .
'' might have been the muerte roja's .''
A;ejandro said while squinting to see .
The others saw too and they new all to well.
'' thse are humvve tire marks .''
Price said .
'' then it is them .''
Ghost said in a stern manner.
'' we keep moving forward but be aware and keep cautious , this is now a capture or kill mission.''
Ghost said .
This was gonna be a big battle and one that you and task force 141 weren't gonna lose.
