The time was roughly 2 in the morning. The lightning and the rain had still not stopped. I was doing my regular night duty, staring at the computer screen in my cabin near tower 4. Behind me was my stereo playing Country music on the desk. I have been doing this job for the last 12 years. The work I did here was to keep an eye on sector 4 which had the stations 16 to 20. Each sector had five stations and two towers and tower 4 was in sector 3.
My radio beeped once and i heard a man say,
'All eyes on station 15, a light just came on.'
It was from the tower 4, maybe the prisoner in the station woke up due to to the storm and turned on the light...I opened a window at my computer which gave me the video feed of all the cameras of station 15. Stations are just isolated towers which are only a room on a metallic tower in which we kept the prisoners. Station 15 belonged to Josh, he only got here two months ago and was our latest guest.
All the screens refreshed, it was now 2:30 am and a very strange thing took place which was pretty rare at this time.
The radio beeped once again, 'Camera 2 just went offline. Tower 4 refresh again please.'
A few seconds later...
'Be advised, camera 2 of station 15 is confirmed offline. Tower 4 and Tower 5, send a one person team to scout and diagnose the problem immediately.'
I knew this was my call because I was one of those people in training, who got the best marks in physical examination. I was also told that i work best under high pressure situations, not that this kind of a situation was a bit difficult, but just in case...
One again, it was the radio,'Summers, its your call, get there and check it out.'
'Yes sir, I'm on it.'
I got up, turned off the stereo, took my radio and checked my ammunition for my handgun and got out of the cabin. The lightning struck again and lit the sky for a fraction of a second. The rain was now over.
Coming down the stairs I could see the station 15 in which a single light lit the room on the top of the tower, there was no movement inside the room or at least from where I was looking. I continued walking towards tower 4 and wondered who would my assigned companion be. Cold breeze and the faint smell after the rain gave the atmosphere a kind of freshness.
