____________________________________You can barely feel the ache of your feet as you walk home, which may be a bliss to you at the moment. You're accompanied only by the occasional shadow and the sound children laughing.
Screaming?
Well, it is Halloween after all. Nothing too odd. You shouldn't be out this late... what time is it again?
"10:00PM" Reads the clock upon your wrist.
You let out an exasperated sigh, practically sulking into the hoodie you dawn loosely as you continue your trip, looking down to your phone to shuffle the playlist you'd been compiling recently. The screen is almost blinding, and you wince for a moment at the light before wincing again, this time at your battery percentage.
"10%"
You groan to yourself, cursing at your own forgetfulness and adjusting the track.
"After Dark - Mr. Kitty"
Your fingers move to the side of your phone, raising the volume as you nearly sink into the music for a bit, resting the device back into your pocket.
You forget to watch your feet, or where you're going for that matter. Not like it mattered, you couldn't tell what direction you were headed. You hadn't quite familiarized with the small town around you. You hadn't had the time, too preoccupied with the efforts of relocation.
You remember you still probably have a few boxes waiting for you back at home.
You'll deal with that another time.
Along the way, you notice...
A feeling.
A gut brimmed to the top with fear, bursting from your belly to your throat.
You're not one for sixth senses, but if you had to guess, you definitely weren't alone. You raise your head to look around, but...
You're not sure where you're at anymore, but it seems as if the pavement you were walking upon had somehow narrowed as you spaced out between the beat in your ears and the thoughts between them. The more you observe your surroundings, you realize that the area is devoid of activity.
No trick-or-treaters, no obnoxious decor, not a sound or soul in sight.
"He...Hello?"
The stutter leaves your throat with a slight flutter of fear laced around the vowel.
You receive no response, taking in a trembling breath as you, hesitantly, continue forward.
Your home has to be around here somewhere. It feels like you've been walking for ages now.
The music filling your brain ceases, leaving a dead silence and the ringing of your body in your ears.
You stiffen a bit at the loss of comfort, almost scrambling to retrieve your phone.
Dead. Not a drop of life left in the battery.
No battery. No music. No GPS. No calling for help.
Your anxiety takes control, and rightfully so.
Unbeknownst to you, a figure looms in those accompanying shadows, and has been.
It's nearly time to strike, and your the prey tonight.
He merely observes you.
Your frame, your skin, your meat.It must be so tender.
He wipes the wetness trickling down the corner of his mouth with a stroke of eagerness.
You turn your back, and he draws closer.
He would compliment you on your courage, but he knows that you're just simply unaware and lost.
You must be, as at first you don't hear the awkward sound of metal scraping metal sparking behind you.
When you do, the sound is almost immediately muffled by booming footsteps running after you.
You didn't even get a chance to take a good look at the figure,
You would have screamed, but your silenced by large hands dragging you away and a cold and sharp feeling pressed against the front of your neck, choking back any primal intentions of fleeing that may have come into mind.
You freeze, the same abstractly large hand moving at an unnatural speed to grip the hair upon your head in an attempt to hold you still.
Nothing leaves you, not a scream nor a whimper. The silence is broken by the sound of your heart pounding out of your chest and a voice breaking the stillness from behind your back, which is pressed against the front of his body and only allows his voice to buzz against your frame.
"...Tell me, what'sa pretty thing like you doing
outside at this hour. Don't ya' know the Devils' out tonight?"
