"The dream that grew inside of me, was that time would bring you to me like the wind..."

*

Time passed, and [Name] suffered.

She suffered to the point where she became a mere shell of herself, a walking, talking lump of bones and flesh holding no emotion whatsoever. She grew evermore reserved and anti-social, so much so that her excursions from home were whittled down to a few necessary dashes to the supermarket, or visits to her family just in case they grew worried over her in her depressed state.

And yet, even with all her sorrow and sadness, whenever [Name] came to interact with other people, her cheery, happy facade would always fool them. She could now face Yuki and Itachi with her head held high, and make it back home without shedding a single tear. She was stronger, but at the same time, she was emotionless. The one thought that kept [Name] going in her solitary state was that Yuki was only temporary. She wouldn't be around forever.

And then it came.

"Hmm?"

[Name] raised an eyebrow as she saw an interesting envelope in front of her front door as she made her way to the kitchen, and bent down cautiously to pick it up. It was a cream, textured envelope, that simply had her name penned on the front in calligraphic font. Intrigued, [Name] didn't hesitate to open it up.

But when she did, and when she started reading, she immediately wished that she hadn't done so.

Dearest [Name]...

Her jaw dropped as the words began to sink in.

It is with the greatest respect and pleasure that we cordially invite you to join us in celebrating the marriage...

The fancy golden invitation fluttered to the ground as [Name] stared dead ahead at her front door.

... of Itachi Uchiha, and Yuki Tamura, on the twentieth...

"No."

[Name] dropped to her knees, staring blankly at the wall as if she'd been shot right through the heart.

"It's only been... how long has it been?" she whispered to herself, losing all sense of feeling first in her chest, then working its way down to the tips of her fingers and toes. Surely this was a joke. Itachi and Yuki had barely been together that long. Or had they? [Name] had been so wrapped up in her self-pitying that she had lost track of time, lost track of everything. Her everyday life was subjected to intensive studying and preparation for exams, just to keep herself occupied. The truth was, she really had no idea how long it had been. A year, maybe two?

All that time gone, and now this was happening.

[Name] fell from her knees onto the ground in a messy heap, feeling her throat begin to burn and constrict as she felt her suppressed emotions flood out of their confinement for the first time in years. It was a tragic scene, but one that was necessary to wake her up. Itachi wasn't coming back for her. They would never be together again. This was it.

Itachi was getting married.

And he wasn't marrying her.

And now, after all the silence and coldness and lack of emotions, [Name] did the first thing she had always been wanting to do for so long.

She cried.
