A/N: The first part of this chapter is a dream sequence... it's quite dramatic for the first chapter, but I've been writing it in my head for weeks. Haha
I'm sorry if it's a bit long, but enjoy the first chapter! 😄

The images were blurry, like shadows running across the screen of his vision. One minute he was back in his flat on Baker Street, having made sure that his sister, who had fallen asleep on the way there, was tucked in safe in the guest bedroom. The next he was back in the Paragon Theater watching with helplessness as Enola fought against Superintendent Grail on the wooden plank above the stage. But this time the events were different.
It felt like he was there watching it, like he was not but a few hours prior. He could see Tewksbury fighting with one of Grail's minions, and Enola was lying on her back on the wooden plank. Someone tried to attack Sherlock from behind, but he was quick enough to ward him off with one punch.
All of a sudden he heard a scream of "ENOLA!!" , and everything went into slow motion as he turned around in horror and saw his sister plummeting down with Grail. He started running as fast as he could to get to her, but as he made it up the side steps of the stage, he heard two loud thuds on the wooden floor. More shadows swam across his mind as he saw Tewksbury run up to Enola's side, immediately checking to see if she was alright and Sherlock did the same.
"Enola, are you alright? Can you hear me..? Oh God, Sherlock. She's bleeding! Enola?!"
He ran to her side and gently pushed the young lord out of the way so he could get closer to her and took her hand. Sherlock couldn't remember the last time he was so worried. He could see that she was semi alert, but in pain. "Enola," his voice echoed in his own ears. "Enola, it's Sherlock. Squeeze my hand if you can hear me. Please, we need to know you're alright." He felt a slight pressure on his hand and he sighed with relief.
Her eyes fluttered slowly before opening completely and looked up at her brother in panic, "Sherlock, is everyone safe? Are the papers safe? Where is Grail?"
"Shh.. everyone is fine. The papers are still intact - they're laying on the floor next to you. Grail is gone to jail. We need to get you to the doctor, Enola. Can you tell me where it hurts? Or we cou-"
He was interrupted by a painful sounding cough and he looked down at the young girl in concern, which turned into horror. Blood. Blood everywhere. She suddenly looked so weak and frail. "Sherlock no. I did what I was supposed to do. I saved Sarah and found out the truth about the match factory. And I got work alongside you. I've done my job. My time has run out." She gave him a sad smile as a tear ran down her cheek. That's when he knew it was a dream. It wasn't like Enola to give up so easily. If this were really his beloved sister she would've fought with all she had to get well. She's too stubborn for that. He tried waking up, but couldn't. (A/N: Those are the worst kind of dream, right?)
Sherlock felt one running down his too, and he reached up to swipe it away before she could see. "No! Enola, I can't lose you... just stay with me. I just got you back into my life. Please don't leave me alone again."Suddenly everything started going in even slower motion. Enola squeezed his hand with the last strength she had. "I'm sorry, brother. Find a friend to keep you company while I'm gone so you don't draw up into yourself again. I liked this new version of Sherlock Holmes.", she gave him a weak smile before coughing again. "I love you, Sherlock."
He saw her eyes close and he shouted out in agony and grief, "No! Enola, please. I love you too. Come back to me!"

Abruptly, he sat up breathing heavily. He looked around and realized that he was still in the clothes from the night before and was laying on the settee. Logically, he knew it was a dream, but mentally he needed to reassure himself that Enola was still tucked away safe and sound. Getting up, he practically ran to her room and opened the door, a little too loudly. A sigh of relief escaped from him as he saw his sister stir, and to his embarrassment, wake up to look at him in shock.
"Sherlock, what on earth are you doing barging into my room in the middle of the night for? Well, actually it's yours, but still. Please explain yourself!"
He felt his heartbeat going down slightly, but felt tears coming to his eyes in relief of her actually being alive. 'That dream was so real', he thought.
Trying to play it off casually, he answered, "I'm sorry if I woke you, Enola. I was just checking on you and the door got stuck. As I see you are just fine, I'll head back to bed. Good night."
As he turned his back on her to leave, he heard the rustle of the sheets, sounding like she was getting up. "Wait Sherlock." He paused for just a moment before tuning back around to look at her. She was sitting on the side of the bed now, staring at him suspiciously; like the great detective he knew she was.
"You haven't been to bed have you? You're still in the suit from last night, and you look like you're getting emotional. And your face is red as if you've been distressed. What is it, brother? You have helped me so much the last few days. Surely there's a way to repay you.", she paused before a sad look came over her face as she softly continued, "Did you have a nightmare as well? You can tell me about it, if it makes you feel better."
Not knowing what possessed him, he felt himself going to sit beside her with a sigh. "Yes I did. I suppose any human being would after the events we both encountered. Just seeing you here and safe is enough for me, Enola.", he hesitated and then said, "In my dream you weren't fine at all. You were much worse off than was reality, and my worst fear came true."
Enola looked at her brother in shock at what he had just shared with her. She'd never seem him so open and honest before. She would've even called it broken. "What do you mean? What is your worst fear?", then she jokingly said, "I thought we were to remain unemotional." She gave him a wry smile that he returned slightly before she saw the tears gathering in his eyes, actually falling."I'm afraid of losing you, Enola. I missed so much of your life for some government job that made me so emotionless, I almost stopped caring about my family. I shouldn't have missed all of that... I at least should have written you and Mother. I should have defended you both from Father, but I was a coward.", she tearfully tried to get a word in, but he put his hand up so she could let him finish. This moment of transparency wouldn't last for long, so he needed her to know how he really felt. "Please let me say this. When we were working together, I truly got to see for myself how talented of a detective you are, Enola. I have enjoyed watching you grow what little I've been able. I care for you so much, I just don't know how to show it. I will spare you the details, but let me tell you this - that nightmare made me realize how much I care for you. I love you, sister, and I'm sorry I have never told you that. I couldn't bare to lose you."
At the end of his speech, Enola was full on sobbing. Firstly, because she had never heard those words coming from her brother's lips, and second, she was saddened by the pain he had to endure by watching her die right in front of him. Before she knew what she was doing, she had wrapped both arms around him in a big bear hug. Sherlock was taken by surprise, but she felt him wrap his arms around her as well. "I love you, Sherlock Holmes. I'm not going anywhere."
They stayed like that for quite some time, and then Sherlock remembered what his sister had said about her having a nightmare as well, so he asked, "Enola, did you want to tell me about your dream?"
She sighed sleepily as she laid her head on his shoulder, "No, brother. That's a story for another time"
