For the longest, the gods had little clue of the cult. It was just a temple worshipping them, and it was nice. Something better than shit-talk from the ungrateful cookies they kept alive with their existence.
They weren't wrong, at first. The cult was a temple, they did pray. Yet the prayers stopped being as constant, as they became frustrated at their goals were crushed again and again.
It was a miracle they fooled the gods, yet, it didn't last. They knew that, yet they underestimated how soon it would come. They were gods, they never had been fools to begin with.
With that, came Sapphire's creation. A child with blue hair and blue eyes, completed with a blue gem on her forehead. The first attempt at Emerald.
"Now sapphire make a fire ok?" The scientist asked with a smile, acting caring to get her to work with them.
They didn't truly care. The words were as fake as their smile, with their true personality being as cold as their heart.
Sapphire smiled, and nodded. She focused the magic in her dough and made a small flame that slowly grew bigger until...
CRACK!
Sapphire flinched and the fire disappeared as she stood there, terrified and in pain. The scientist's kind and caring smile quickly faded, as they argued with each other over her failed attempt.
"What did you do?!"
"I didn't do shit!"
"Clearly she didn't either!"
"She's bleeding you idiots! Can't you see she won't be able to do magic without dying?!"
"And shes useless if she dies from a tiny flame!"
"Quit yelling!"
"Your one to talk!"
"Because thats the only damn way you two listen!"
Sapphire started to cry, making all the scientists in the room stop arguing with each other as they tended to the crack she had gotten from trying to use magic. Thats all she ever saw them do as attempt and attempt woke up with no life, either that or dying upon waking up.
Day after day it was just test after test, fight after fight. She'd gotten used to them constantly fighting.
She looked at their papers, now she could see why. They were utter idiots, no wonder that scientist called them idiots. She just added notes to the papers, as they continued to fight each other like the fools they were.
Then they both looked at her, noticing her writing on the notes. She blinked, looking at them like she did nothing.
"What?" She asked, clueless
"What are you doing?" One of them asked
"Doing something useful while you three continue to fight." Sapphire answered calmly
One of them grabbed the notes, blinking, "Perhaps she is useful..."
Shoved into a coat, she had suddenly become useful. Every experiment they asked for her, again and again. Each attempt drained more and more of her energy...
Sapphire sighed, looking at Emerald, in the tube. Emerald hadn't awoken yet, still asleep with the bandages wrapped around her....
