Jisung fell onto his bed exhaustedly, draping an arm over his closed eyes after returning home from Hayeon's apartment.
As soon as he'd made sure she was asleep, he'd switched the lights off and locked the doors before leaving with a heavy heart.
A heavier sigh left his lips, all the sleepiness from earlier completely washed away clean after their conversation. All that was engraved within his mind was the blank image of her and everything she'd admitted.
The ringing of his phone broke his train of thoughts and Jisung stretched his arm over to grab it, unwillingly accepting the incoming call from Vernon.
"Hyung". He responded, sighing shortly after.
"You called earlier, is everything alright?". His voice was slightly concerned. "I was out with my sister for dinner and only just saw your six missed calls".
A chuckle left Jisung's lips and he hummed vaguely in response.
"Sorry if I disturbed you. I just had something to ask and didn't realize I'd called that many times"."What did you want to ask? Seems like something's bothering you". Vernon paused. "Is it about Hayeon, by any chance?".
Couldn't be more right.
Jisung stayed quiet in awe, wondering how the elder boy could always sense what was on his mind. Their years of friendship seemed to have taught him something.
"I'll take the silence as a yes. Now go on, I don't have all night". He replied, slightly amused. "And I'll save making fun of you later, you know, for being curious about your so-called worst enemy".
"You know Kang Yejun right?".
He hummed. "Hayeon's ex. I know him, why?".Jisung sat up in his bed, bringing the phone closer to his ear as he leant against the bedframe. "Do you know him really well? What kind of a person is he?".
This time it was Vernon's turn to sigh.
"We only met him maybe three times as a group since he wasn't so fond of the fact that she had guy friends from high school. I never really got good vibes from that guy". He admitted. "Hayeon was beyond the moon when she first started meeting him and told us, but that didn't seem to last long".
"Do you know why?".
"I don't know why". He replied truthfully. "I can only suppose they went on really bad terms afterwards since Hayeon stopped talking about him around us. She would also avoid hanging out with us sometimes and we assumed it could've been because of him, since she'd started to change when he'd appeared in her life. So Wooyoung asked her but.."
Vernon's voice trailed off, followed by the release of a frustrated breath.
Jisung furrowed his brows. "But?".
"Instead of answering, she became really defensive suddenly. She got really offended that they'd thought of it that way and things got pretty tense between us all during that time".
That doesn't sound like something Hayeon would do..
"I'm glad their relationship ended. There was something about them that never felt right... I was really worried about Hayeon. Sometimes we went weeks without seeing her or getting in contact with her. She even had marks on her arms.." He stopped, sharply sighing. "But she'd never talk about them".
Jisung balled his fist by his side, jaw tightening as he listened.
"Even after they broke up she said nothing". Vernon continued. "A peaceful breakup, she said. Apparently their personalities didn't match and they weren't too fond of each other anymore. And although we caught on that something was wrong, she left the chapter unfinished".
