"Well, can you tell I haven't slept very well since the last time that we spoke?" I sang softly as I dug around in my purse, which my friends appropriately named 'The Black Hole'. Cell phone, iPod, junk, CD case, pack of gum, junk, Tic Tacs, mini tissue box, keys! There we go!
I jammed my dull, scratched silver key into the lock and twisted it. I thumped my hand around on the wall, searching for a light switch. I flipped it up with a click and the room was flooded in white light. There weren't boxes on the floor like there were this morning, though. I mean, we just moved into this house a week ago, where's all of our stuff?
I poked my head into the living room and my jaw dropped to the floor. A couch, the one I reconized from the furniture store, was set up at the left of the room with a brand new coffee table in front of it. A flat screen TV across from it and all of our little things set up throughout the living room. And the walls were painted a deep cranberry red color.
I rushed into the kitchen, wondering what other surprises would come my way.
"Surprise!"
"Oh my God, you guys!" I screamed. I scanned the room full of people to find my parents, my sister (Haven), and all of my friends; Avery, Spyrit and Rayne (who are sisters, one year appart), Josh, Robert, Brian, and Parker, "How did you do all of this!?"
"Well..." Rayne began, "You take a really long time to shop-"
"So we thought we'd help your parents with a few things while you were gone!" Spyrit finished, "As sort of-"
"A super huge birthday present-"
"From all of us!"
I laughed as I looked around the freshly painted kitchen, "Wow... you guys are too much..." I sighed.
"Go look at your room," my mom said with a smile. My grin grew wider as I flew up the stairs and to the left, all the way to the end of the hall. I threw open the door and gasped. Like, literally gasped.
The wall to my left was painted black with white vine patterns along the top near the ceiling, then the rest were a rich shade of cobalt blue (my favorite color). My bed (pushed to the far left corner) had sheets that looked sort of like news papers, all with names of different places. Rome, Moscow, New York City, San Fransisco, Brooklyn, Chicago... But the main thing that caught my eye was a picture frame set up like a collage with pictures of me and all of my friends. One of just the girls, all dressed up for a school dance and posing like monkeys, one of me and Parker kissing, one of me jumping on Brian's back and him looking shocked... one for nearly every great moment of my life. The carpet in my room was a soft gray, and all of the furniture was mahogany.
"Oh my gosh..." I whispered, "It's beautiful, you guys!" I squealed as I threw my arms around my mom, "I love it so much!"
"I'm glad, but thank Avery, Spyrit, and Rayne too. They helped pick out all of this stuff!" she said with a big grin.
I hugged each of them as well, a big grin still plastered on my face, "Come on, you guys, let's go get those cupcakes," my dad said with a grin. We all ran down stairs and into the kitchen. I ran to the tray of cupcakes, decorated and iced to perfection, "Oh my God," I said loudly, "Where'd you get these?"
"Parker made 'em," Avery said, "Ain't they pretty?"
"They're beautiful, I almost feel bad eating them... but we all know that Parker's cakes and stuff are just so good... I have to," I said picking one up, noticing that they're red velvet, my favorite. I took a tiny bite and rolled my eyes, "Everybody come eat these cupcakes!" I yelled.
"Like 'em?" Parker asked with a wink as he grabbed one for himself.
"Oh yeah," I said smiling and moving in closer to him, "And I find men who bake to be very sexy," I said playfully.
