Setting: House party
Character: High school girl
End result: Trying to win at beer pong
Her lips quirked in a way that twisted up her mouth, eyes narrowed; she looked as if she’d just eaten a lemon. Her elbow was perfectly angled as she rolled back and forth from the balls of her feet to her toes. The girl seemed to be muttering to herself, something she did often, as a look of utmost concentration remained fixed on her face.
“One more, you’ve got this. They are so not winning,” she tells herself, as if it were a statement of fact.
Ignoring James’ encouragements in her ear and the crowd pulsating around the haven of the beer pong clearing, and with a steady hand, she launches the dented ping pong ball. In her mind the drunken crowd around the table was awaiting the outcome with bated breath. However, as the faded white blur slows and begins to spin around the inside of the plastic cup and a distinctive plop is heard, the only cheering was coming from the girl and her partner. The two embrace and yell out in excitement as the other team sulks slightly, the larger boy grabbing a cup and almost crushing it as he takes a swig.
