"Well, this is definitely something," Logan voiced his thoughts.
The three brothers were looking at a nice white picket-fenced house. The grass was trimmed perfectly, and flowers were peppered across the lawn.
Spencer scoffed. "If that something is a fake piece of shit, I agree. Why do I even have to be here in the first place again?"
Tyler laughed. "Complaining isn't gonna do much now, is it? So suck it up buttercup, it'll be over soon."
Spencer groaned.
The trio walked up to the door and rang the doorbell. Seconds later the door opened and their father appeared.
He seemed to have lost some weight, and his dark hair was nicely cut. Blue eyes identical to Spencer's stared back at them. Their father wasn't a bad-looking man by any chance, but it was what was on the inside that was a piece of shit.
"Hey," Logan spoke, followed by Tyler's greeting. Spencer was the only one with no answer.
"There you boys are, been waiting for you guys almost a half hour. Come on, what are you waiting for? Get in."
The three boys walked into their father's house on a beeline. They followed him to his modern living room.
"Hey, where's that sister of yours?"
Logan furrowed his eyebrows. "With our mom, why?"
"Nothing. Just wondering."
Logan and Tyler started a simple conversation with their dad. Spencer carelessly sat down on the side of the couch and pulled out his phone.
Their dad Landon, wasn't satisfied, however. His father kicked his leg to get Spencer's attention.
Spencer merely glanced up from texting Taylor. "What."
Landon crossed his legs at the ankle and reclined. "Nice to see you too, son."
Spencer was used to his taunting tone. Everybody knew that he was the punching bag to their dad. He was verbally and occasionally even physically abused. It only stopped when their parents split up, and he is thankful for it every day.
His peers and teachers were starting to notice the bruises and his mask was slipping. He was truly grateful for Logan and Tyler fighting a battle for him nonstop when he couldn't fight for himself.
"Mhmm."
His dad chuckled. "Maybe we oughta have to bring you back to kindergarten. They can teach you some manners. Go with that little half-sister of yours, what's her name again?"
Spencer crossed his arms and balled up his fists, containing himself from saying something he would regret.
"Lay off him, dad," Tyler said from his spot on the couch, gaining his dad's attention.
Logan ran a hand down up and down Spencer's arm. Spencer was hoping that Logan would do that just a little longer. He secretly was craving that feeling - warmth, comfort. He didn't have it from his parents and he would accept it from his brother if his pride didn't stand in the way.
Spencer didn't show that he was against it nor that he enjoyed it. Logan kissed his hair and Spencer didn't pull away this time. Logan leaned down and whispered into his ear, "We'll be outta here soon, promise."
Spencer stiffly nodded and pulled away. This place made him wanna go insane. His airways were being blocked off by the bad memories from his father rushing in.
Tyler could see that his dad was about to speak up when something on his right side caught his eye.
"What is that shit there?" He pointed to his right ear. "An earring?" Landon was disgusted. Tyler could tell he disapproved already.
