Raph hates being a ghost.
He just finished unsuccessfully tried to reprimand his brother working ignoring Raph. I mean, technically he can't see him, so he kinda not at fault. His brothers are always overworking themselves, as usual, and he's here not being able to do anything.
It's hard to be a big brother when no one can hear you.
He sighed as leaned on the air, watching Donnie work off with a sad look in his eyes. He gently tried to reach for Donnie once more, but he just phased through him. He winced, retracting his hand back as he darted his eyes.
Donnie shivered, putting his goggles on top of his head. "S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N, check the temperature; is the heater broken?" Donnie said to his ai, before he walked away.
Raph rubbed his arms, clicking his tongue as he kept his hands to himself.
He... missed hugging his brothers. He missed the feeling of Mikey climbing on his shell, he missed everything. Raph took a deep breath, shaking his head.
It's been 2 years since he has died, he can handle this.
He got out Donnie's makeshift lab, and flew towards the main bunker room. He looked around for a bit, before he noticed Leo and quickly flew towards him.
"Heya Lee!"
Raph said cheerfully, waving his hand in Leo's direction. Leo didn't reply, of course, and instead looked at his youngest son, bending to his level.
Raitaro Tsuki Hamato, Leo's youngest child and only son. He was also a red eared slider mutant, and was basically a copy pasted version of Leo.
Raph smiled, watching Leo pat and interact with the child.
"Hey buddy! Where are your sisters?" Leo asked, looking around a bit before looking back at the younger turtle.
The tot blinked, shrugging. "They're with Pa, Pa said something about learning with mystic powers" he said, before going back to play with the wood carved toy train his other father made for him.
Leo chuckled, before letting out a heavy breath. "Oh- I got a gift for you Starlight, wanna see?" Raitaro perked up, watching his father dig into his pouch.
"I gave your sisters some of our old stuff, but... I want you to have this" Raph's breath hitched when Leo took out a familiar worn out blue teddy, and gave it to the younger mutant.
Raitaro's eyes sparkled as he gasped, reaching out for the teddy as Leo gave it to him with a chuckle. "It belonged to your uncle Raphie, keep it safe okay?" Leo said, before kissing his son on the head. "Now, I better go run for some supplies before your Pa gets my head on a stick" he joked as he got up, stretching his back.
"Your Auntie Cass is gonna take care of you while I'm gone, be good okay?" He said as Raitaro's face shifted to an unamused look "are you sure she's fit to babysit?"
"Your bubba Casey is gonna be there-"
"Deal"
Leo chuckled before he waved off "Alright! Be good little Rai!" He said as he walked off, Raph smiling at the little turtle now.
"Heh, aren't you a cutie?" Raph said, knowing he can't hear him. He bent down, sitting on the floor as he watch the child put the plush he received on the train, making noises as he moved the train.
"That was my favourite toy, take care of Mr Bubbles well" Raph joked with a grin, Raitaro looking up to him now. "I will, I promise"
A long silence ensued, Raph staring at the child as Raitaro went back to playing, humming to himself.
"You- you can see me?!" Raph screeched in bewilderment as he backed away, Raitaro not looking up or being phased.
"And hear you. I always have been able to see you, just didn't get the chance to talk to you. You always hang around Uncle Donnie or Mikey, or just around dad" he said nonchalantly, like it was the most normal thing in the world.
Raph blinked, before sitting back properly as he watched the child. "Uhm... I guess talking to air with people around can be weird..." Raph admitted, rubbing his neck "Does your parents know you can see ghosts?"
"No, they have enough on their plate- I don't wanna add to their stress, Dad is already getting wrinkles" Raitaro said, Raph snorting "Who has the valley now Leo..." He muttered to him self as he hid a grin, before looking at Raitaro.
More silence ensued, before Raph suddenly straightened up.
"Wait- I'm literally impaled in my stomach how aren't you scared-?" Raph raised an eyebrow.
It was true; there is a large hole from his shell to his stomach, which was the area the Kraang targeted him on and eventually killed him.
Raitaro stopped moving his train, and looked up at Raph with his bead eyes. "You aren't the first ghost I've seen, uncle."
Raph recoiled and winced, darting his eyes.
There were more ghosts, he doesn't see them often but there are more, and they are in worse condition than him.
Just seeing them suffer and cry, walk around with fear makes Raph scared, and this little kid has likely seen it too, except he couldn't talk to anyone about it.
"But- you're so young-" "I'm growing up in an apocalypse uncle, fear is naturally numb to every apocalypse child" Raitaro said, before going back to his toy.
Raph swallowed the dry lump in his throat, watching the child. He's not wrong- but the ghosts are terrifying to look at, something he could never imagine even fighting in the apocalypse. Being able to see them as a child...
Wait- how long has he been able to see ghosts?
"I know what you're probably thinking, I've been able to see ghosts since I was born." Raitaro said, sitting on his knees "I'm already used to all this, so don't worry about me" he gave a small smile, a gap in his tooth.
Raph smiled softly, going patting the kid; but this time he didn't phase through. Raph gasped softly to himself, his eyes widening. Tears pricked on the side of his eyes as his hands shook.
Raitaro, with no words, crawled up to him and on his lap, hugging his torso. Raph shivered in his spot as he smiled weakly, putting his larger arms around him.
Oh how he missed this....
