We drove across town, heading towards Galant's house. There was a wooden sign at the end of his driveway that said "13 Grim Wood."
I followed Galant inside. I watched as he opened the front door of his dark grey house. Galant had a tattoo of a dagger on his right forearm. As we entered the living room his white cat looked up at me with her strikingly blue eyes. When I sat down on the couch the cat let out a hiss like I was another cat in her territory.
"Angel, she is a friend." He said reassuringly, petting her as she licked his fingers. She eventually stopped hissing but her eyes never left me. She never did like me very much. For a cat named Angel, she wasn't very friendly.
"Are you hungry?" He sat down next to me on the couch.
I hesitated for a moment. "No, but thank you for asking,"
We sat there for what felt like an hour, soaking up the awkward but peaceful silence.
"What have you been up to?" Galant asked.
"Nothing." It felt like the easiest response. I have never been very good at having conversations.
"Make any new friends?" He tried.
I shook my head. "Not really."
Galant stared at me. "You seem to have a very dull life, Emily."
My phone dinged.
"Who's it from?" Galant asked, suspicious. Normally the only person who texted me was him.
I picked up my phone and went into messages. Galant leaned over my shoulder. "I don't know, it doesn't say," The place where the name of the person would be was blank.
I read the text out loud. "Where are you?"
"Text them back." Galant insisted.
"What do I say?" I asked, confused. It wasn't everyday someone told you to text a complete stranger.
"Ask who they are. Answer the question with another one."
I typed the message into my phone and sent it.
My phone vibrated and another message appeared below mine.
"It says: You'll find out soon enough. Just tell me where you are and everything will be fine."
"Don't respond and see what happens," Galant suggests.
I hear "In my Blood" by Shawn Mendes and realize it's my ringtone. I answer it by accident and feel my heart pounding in my chest.
"H...hello?"
No one answered. Galant mouths the words "Hang up" but I'm too scared to move.
"Where are you, Emily Blade?" A deep voice came from my phone's speakers.
"H...how do you know my name? Who are you?" Before they can answer Galant takes my phone and hangs up, putting it to the side. He hugs me and I can feel the tears running down my cheeks.
"It's okay, Emily. You are safe," Galant gently strokes my hair, something my parents would never do.
There was a loud knock on the door.
"Did you hear that?" I backed away from Galant and waited for someone to open it but nothing happened.
Galant took a dagger out of his pocket and slowly crept toward the door.
"Galant wait..." He opened the door and I let out a sigh of relief when a member of the Black Diamond Ridge Police or the BDRP as the woman's badge said. A detective I'm assuming.
I came over and stood by Gallant's side to get a better look at her.
The woman's black hair was curly. She had a serious expression on her face.
It was midday, and the dim light of the sun was giving her face a god like glow.
Her hand curled into a fist, she aimed for the bridge of his nose. When the woman successfully hit her target, she stepped inside and moved to twist Galant's arm.
Galant saw it coming this time and he kicked her leg out from under her. He watched her knee come out of its socket. A loud crack sounded that could only have been the sound of a bone breaking.
The woman shrieked in agony, clutching her broken leg.
Galant pointed his dagger at her heart. "Who sent you!" He demanded, the tip of the dagger's blade touching her chest.
The woman smirked, "I would rather die," She snapped.
"That can be arranged," Galant put down the dagger and punched her in the ribs, sending a ripple of pain through her body.
The woman groaned as she fell to the floor clutching her side. "Fine, I'll tell you!"
She hesitated for a moment, "A man threatened me with a pistol, he said if I didn't kill Galant and Emily Blade, he wouldn't think twice before pulling the trigger." I could hear the fear in her voice, she was telling the truth.
"What was his name?" Galant pressed, hoping for a better answer.
"I can't, I've already said too much. He warned me not to tell anyone if I wanted to live." She pleaded, a tear running down her cheek.
"It's either him or us," I jumped in.
"Terror Vex, that's all I know I swear," The woman said.
