Kumi found out that Koutarou had lived close to him so every morning, the two would walk to school.
It was raining season in Japan so the two of them had to bring umbrellas each time they walk to school.
" Kumi, how come you like rain so much? " Koutarou asked out of the blue, looking at Kumi with pure curiosity.
Kumi looked over at Koutarou and chuckled, smiling fondly. " Well, I'm not exactly sure. It .. just comforts me, I guess. "
" Hm. Okay. " Koutarou nodded it off.
Once they arrived at school, the rain just started pouring harder. They hung up their umbrellas before entering the school. Kumi checked the time on his watch before rolling up his sleeves and adjusting his tie in the restroom's mirror. Once he was ready, he went to class with Koutarou.
The day went as every day would. Koutarou inviting Kumi to watch him practice volleyball. Kumi was planning to enter the basketball team possibly next week, so that caught up his mind.
" Kumi! Did you see that?! " Koutarou had a giant grin on his face, sweat dripping from his forehead.
Kumi snapped out of it and smiled at Koutarou. " Yeah, I saw. It was cool! " He was lying, but he didn't wanna deal with Koutarou being sad today.
The day ended, Kumi stood up and waited at the entrance, scrolling through his phone as he waited for Koutarou.
" Kumi! Sorry I'm late, was caught up with something. " Koutarou slapped Kumi's shoulder.
" It's fine. I wanted to talk about something, though .. " Kumi kicked the rocks as he grabbed their umbrellas, passing Koutarou's to him.
" What is it? "
" Oh, nothing serious. I just wanted to join the basketball team .. or club, I don't know. But I wanna join it around next week. " He grinned at Koutarou who frowned a bit.
" But then you won't be able to see me. "
" Oh, come on. I'll be able to see you practice this entire week. Don't be sad, Kou. " Kumi giggled.
Once both of them arrived home, they parted ways and said goodbye to each other. Kumi got back home, going upstairs and immediately throwing himself on to the bed.
After he took a short nap, he woke up and took a shower, ate dinner then went back upstairs. He chatted to a few of his friends he met at school, besides Koutarou. He isn't that lonely.
Next morning. Kumi got up, feeling dizzy and sick. He rubbed his temples, sighing. He just shrugged it off and maybe it was due to the amount he ate at last night's dinner.
He got ready for school and walked to school with Koutarou, as usual. But he remained silent, and looked tired.
" Kumi? Are you okay? " Koutarou asked in a worried tone. Kumi didn't reply, just gave him a small nod. Koutarou knew Kumi wasn't okay, but he shouldn't worry too much. It was Kumi, he could handle himself, right?
They arrived at school like normal, they hung up their umbrellas and went to class.
A few hours in, Kumi suddenly collapsed during class, barely breathing. He was brought to the school nurse. It wasn't anything serious, he just passed out due to something, though the part where he was almost about to die by barely even breathing was unknown to the nurse.
" He will be fine, please go back to- "
" No! Please, let me stay with him. "
" I'm sorry. You must get back to class. "
Koutarou was dragged to class by his friend. All he thought in class was Kumi.
Kumi stayed in the nurse's office the whole day, the nurse had to call his parents. The parents rushed in, their child in a pale state, but still breathing. Koutarou rushed in the nurse's office and took a good look at Kumi. He bit his bottom lip to prevent him from crying.
Kumi was eventually brought to the hospital for obvious reasons. He was laying on the hospital bed, looking lifeless. The doctors had no idea what he had, and couldn't do anything. All they knew was he didn't have much time.
" Shit .. shit .. shit! " Koutarou muttered under his breath, looking at Kumi, the tears in his eyes about to escape.
" Kou .. where am I ..? " The hoarse voice came from Kumi, whose eyes were barely even open.
" Kumi, you're okay! " God, he was lying. Of course Kumi wasn't okay. He only had a few more days.
" When do I get out of here? " Kumi looked at Koutarou. He didn't know what to reply.
" Soon. But not today, at least. The doctor says you should stay in the hospital for a few days.
" Ah ... Okay. God .. it hurts .. so bad. " Kumi shut his eyes as he touched his temples.
" I .. feel weak .. " Kumi passed out yet again.
Kumi, please live. Please.
Koutarou thought as he looked at the passed out Kumi.
He hated the news from the doctor. Why did they have to take him away?
