Angela's eyes went wide and had her skin not been a deep chocolate, she would've immediately gone pale. Frozen in her spot, she stared directly into August's furious eyes as he clenched his jaw.
"What the hell is he doing here?" The angry chief barked out again through gritted teeth.
"I'm doing what you can't." August snapped back through his gritted teeth and tightened jaw. "Solving the case, Todd."
Captain Todd's pale skin was a bright crimson when he approached the two. "Holmes, you and me over there...NOW!"
Angela finally turned to face him, her steps slow as she walked the direction he pointed. All eyes were on her, the scene having stilled as they watched the madness unfold.
"Back to work!" Captain Todd shouted.
The scene resumed, eyes still following the two as they walked away. Whispers began to erupt, sending a buzz different from the equipment being used.
Captain Todd huffed as he led the young detective away. He turned to Angela and took a deep breath, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Holmes, this had better be good." He mumbled.
Angela just shrugged. "Look...this man is killing another woman every other day it seems like." She spoke. She surprised even herself with how calmly the sentence left her mouth. "August has never failed to solve a case so I figured what's the worst-"
She was abruptly cut off when the Captain removed his hand from his face and began to shout again. "I specifically said no!" He reminded her.
"I know. And I only wanted-"
She was cut off once more as Captain Todd extended an empty hand. "Your gun and your badge." He told her plainly. "You're fired."
Angela's breath hitched in her throat and her heart stopped in her chest. "F-f-fired?"

*3 Years Previous*
Chresanto August approached the abandoned warehouse alone. They'd been hunting down a child predator for months now and somehow the man kept slipping right through their fingers.
He had a signature. He was targeting young girls ages 7-12, having kidnapped 4 in the last 16 days. He'd keep each young girl for exactly 4 days before disposing of their bodies. What he did in that time, no one knew. But each child had been tortured and raped.
And upon the discovery of the 4th girl's remains, the captain's own daughter Julie went missing. She was a spunky, sassy blonde haired, blue eyed 10-year-old. She'd been playing out in her friend's yard when she disappeared, leaving her coat and shoes behind.
Since the Captain had a very personal connection to this case, he was not allowed direct involvement, so he comforted his grieving wife while anxiously awaiting his daughter's return.
