"Yn, have you seen the guy who brought the caroloing group?" Wendy asks as she puts a file down onto the nurse station desk.
Yn looks up from her charting and shakes her head, "The group doing the singing for the residents tonight?" She asks, only half interested in the latest event the Nursing home was having for the residents this holiday season.
"Yeah, but girl, you should go check them out before you leave, the group director is one of the hottest people I've ever seen," Wendy presses, "If I wasn't taken I would probably hit on him, I'm not even going to lie."
"Wendy, you would hit on a brick wall if it was built really well," Yn snorts as Wendy huffs in frustration.
"And this is why you are the only nurse who works here who isn't dating anyone!" Wendy says as she walks off toward a residents room.
"I don't need a man to be happy, Wendy!" Yn calls after the nurse, turning back to her charts.
"Yn?" A voice asks from the other side of the counter.
Yn looks up and then quickly stands so she could see one of her favorite residents sitting in her wheelchair on the other side of the high desk.
"Hi Nancy, do you need anything from me?" Yn smiles at the woman. Nancy had been at home for many years and was still very active and her mind was fully sound. She also loved to talk and Yn had taken to her as soon as they had met. The older woman was kind and always willing to give advice or be a space for Yn to vent about the difficulties of the job.
"Yes, Yn, I'm so sorry to bother you but would you be willing to bring me down to the event room? My arms are not feeling up to it tonight," Nancy asks, looking apologetic despite her need.
"Of course!" Yn says immediately, not only was it part of her job but she would do practically anything for Nancy, "Do you mind waiting another moment while I finish this chart? It'll take thirty seconds, I promise."
"Take your time, Yn, the singers don't start for another fifteen minutes anyway," Nancy says with a smile, waving away Yn's concern.
Yn finishes the chart as quickly as she can, only taking two minutes to type the last few things into the computer before she stands and starts to push Nancy's chair down their hallway.
"How is your holiday season going Nancy? I haven't been keeping track of people as well this year as other years," Yn asks, just trying to catch up with her favorite resident.
"Why is that, Hun?" Nancy asks, "Do you finally have someone to keep you busy outside of work?"
Yn laughs, "Not quite, I'm just working a lot and I don't have as much time anymore, so many people have been calling out that I have been covering shifts like crazy."
"You work too much,Yn, I don't like that," Nancy says with a frown as they reach the elevator.
"Ah, but I really don't mind that much, I am able to save so much of the overtime pay, I should be able to buy a house next year if I keep it up," Yn says with a small happy smile.
Nancy only continues to frown, "Hun, you are going to burn yourself out. Even if you can get a house, it will be empty and you will still be alone."
"I don't really mind being alone, you know that."
Nancy considers this for a long moment, "Yn, do you know what I want for Christmas this year?"
"What's that?" Yn asks, an amused smile playing at her lips as Nancy takes her hand.
"I want you to meet a good man or woman, and I want you to be happy, not just working all the time. Live while you are young and you can!"
Yn squeezes Nancy's hand, knowing the woman only had good intentions when she got like this, "I really appreciate you caring for me Nancy, but we probably have to wait until after the holidays when people stop calling out for me to find a man like you want."
Nancy pats her hand once more as the elevator arrives at the correct floor, "As long as you are willing to try and live more while you are young."
"I'll keep it in mind, I promise," Yn says, resuming her position behind the chair, pushing Nancy down the hallway on the main floor toward the event room.As the two of them entered the event room, Yn looked around in awe, none of the other events this holiday season had put the residents into such an excited state.
What made this one different, Yn had no idea. She shrugged it off as she pushed Nancy to a table where a few other residents were sitting that she knew Nancy liked.
"Is this good for you," Yn asks, moving the existing chair away from the table as Nancy nods and then gives her a wicked smile, "I see a man for you," She points across the room toward the stage.
Yn looks over, face void of any emotion at all as she scans the group of people all dressed in very tasteful matching holiday outfits standing near the stage.
They all looked to be in their early twenties and took this caroling thing very seriously, they were practicing some kind of vocal warm up.
"Who do you mean?" Yn asks, glancing back down to Nancy who gives her an exasperated look and heavy sigh.
"She really must be blind if she can't see the Greek god standing by the stage," Nancy says to the other three women at the table who all laugh and shake their heads.
Yn looks over at the group again and that's when she catches sight of him. He was moderately tall, with gorgeous perfectly styled hair and beautiful strong facial features. He was dressed in what looked like an outfit tailored to fit him and had an air of confidence and was definitely in charge of the group.
"Nancy, there is no way someone who looks like that is going to be interested in me," Yn scoffs, looking down at her ill-fitting scrubs, crocs and messily pulled back hair.
Nancy makes a clicking sound as she shakes her head again, "You are beautiful, Yn, come back after your shift and I'll introduce you to him."
"Nancy, you don't even know him!" Yn says with a sigh but stops short with a shake of her head, she did need to get back upstairs and finish the rest of her charting for the day, "I'll see you at med time."
Nancy gives her a happy wave as she walks back out of the event room, hoping that she wouldn't regret going back down there later that night.
