Ekim

A few hours ago

I took a seat on a bench at the park. I asked Hazal to come with me but she already has plans with Orjinal, her boyfriend. She wanted to come, but I didn't want to be the reason they have to cancel their plans. I could call Leyla or someone else but I didn't feel up for it.

So I sat alone. Luckily it wasn't too busy at the park. Too much noise is the last thing I needed right now. It felt good to be outside and soak up in the sun for a while. My phone suddenly chimed. It's a Whatsapp message from mom.

Mom: Sorry Ekim, I will be home late. Call me when you need me. Love you.

I quickly replied back to her message and noticed the time on my phone. It's been a few hours now and Kanat hasn't called me yet. I don't want to be a clingy girlfriend and call him constantly. I just have to be patient. He'll call. A few hours passed and I decided to walk back home.

I don't know what got into me, but I took a cab and I'm currently standing in front of Kanat's house.

Great Ekim, you're a clingy girlfriend after all. Just a few more steps and I'd be at the front door . Suddenly I changed my mind. Maybe I should go back home. Yeah, I should do that.

Once I turned around, a car entered the driveway. Mrs. Suna stepped out and rolled her eyes when she saw me. I went up to her and greeted her with a simple hello. She ignored me then slammed the car door too hard. She opened the back door and started taking out a bunch of plastic bags with groceries.

"What are you doing here?" She hissed.

"I came to see Kanat," I softly said. She huffed then slammed the door after she took out the bags. Clearly she's annoyed, but she didn't have to slam the door that hard. Poor car.

She's probably annoyed because I came to see Kanat. Maybe I should have went home. I guess I was missing Kanat already.

"Why? Didn't he come to you this morning?" She asked as she held the bags in her hands.

"Well, yes he did. Wait, he told you?"

"Of course he did. And we argued because of you. You're ruining our life!" She flashed me a glare. That's why Kanat didn't want to talk about his mom. He had an argument with his mom because of me. I am the reason again. I suddenly felt guilty.

"I'm sorry. But..."

"Save it! I don't want to hear your sorry's. I don't want you anywhere near my house. Go home!"

She's older than I am, I should be respectful. My mom taught me to always be the bigger person. It doesn't matter if you're pretty or rich. What matters is your good personality. I also don't want to argue with her because she's Kanat's mom.

I didn't know what to say to her. See, this is why I wanted to talk to Hazal. She would tell me exactly what to do.

Present

Mrs. Suna and I had a staring contest before the front door of the house opened. When she turned her head, her lips immediately changed into a smile.

"You better keep this between us Ekim. Now smile," Mrs. Suna whispered to me. This woman really had the nerve to give me orders. I felt anger rising up inside me but tried to stay calm. I avoided looking at whoever was at the door. I don't want Kanat to question me. Otherwise I'll have to tell him everything his mom said. Instead I looked at my dirty shoes. I really should clean them once I get home.

Then I heard his voice.

"Ekim?"

I looked up and our eyes locked. Kanat and Aziz stood by the door. Kanat looked confused. He's probably asking himself what I'm doing here. He looked at his mom then at me. I bit my lower lip and silently prayed he's not gonna ask me questions. I hate lying to him.
