Chris' pov:
I woke up by the sound of an alarm, my vision blurry and my heart pounding fast. I focused my eyes on the clock, it was 7am. I dragged myself out of bed, lightly organizing it, and opened my wardrobe. I grab the first thing I saw, not caring much about it, and walked to the shower
It’s September, meaning orientation for new students at UCL has started. I was nervous but at the same time excited. Maybe I'll befriend lots of people and start a band.
I took my time in the bathroom, making sure I looked presentable for the first day. After drying off and getting dressed, head into the kitchen. I filled the coffee maker with water, added the coffee and turned on the machine. At the same time, I grabbed out of the fridge, bread, lettuce, ham and cheese, and made 2 sandwiches.
I was about to finish making breakfast, when the radio turned on. Startled, I I turned my head where the radio sits, and saw my roomate, Phil.
“Good morning, did you sleep well?” Phil asked. I didn’t notice he had woken up; he told me he was getting up half an hour before going to orientation.
“Fine, I guess, it took me a while to fall asleep. Why are you awake so early?” I asked, giving him a cup of coffee and a sandwich
“Well, I'm going to the park with my girlfriend before orientation starts,” he answered, taking a quick sip of coffee. “I’ll see you at 9!” he exclaimed, exiting the door with the sandwich in his hand.
After I finished eating, I put the dishes in the sink for later, and turned on the TV. I watched about 2 episodes of a series when I looked at the time, it was a quarter to 9. I grabbed my keys, my phone, and rushed to UCL (University College London).
Once there, I saw a lot of people. I got anxious, I didn't recognise anyone and I was alone. It took me a while, but I found Phil. He was chatting with a guy with buzzed hair. I walked towards them.
"Hello Chris!" Phil said excitedly, most of the time he is full of energy "This is Guy Berryman, I just met him." Phil is a very charismatic and social person, he can make friends really fast.
"Hi, I'm Chris, Chris Martin. Nice to meet you," I introduced myself in a friendly tone. He smiled and shyly waved his hand.
“Hello everyone, may I have your attention?” a tall guy said. He was probably a senior. "I'm Max and I will be showing you around the building."
“Phil, you should pay really close attention to this,” I whispered, slightly laughing. He is a little clumsy, but I always exaggerate the fact he is. Once, when he was washing clothes, he used purple dye instead of soap. For his defense, it was the same color but still
“I’m not that clumsy!” he screamed and Guy laughed, some people stared at us and others shushed us.
We started walking and entered the building. There were stairs on the right and a big hallway and a big door on the left.“To the right we have the stairs that take us to the 2nd floor and to the left you can see the hallway that takes us to the some classes” said the senior raising his voice a little bit because of the sound of footsteps of people entering that room
“And this big door take us to the cafeteria, you can buy food and eat here or you can eat anywhere you want, like burger king or whatever” he continued
We went through all the rooms and located the bathrooms. Then we hopped on the 2nd floor and entered some rooms. With the people surrounding me and the room, I felt small.
After some more touring they let all of us chat so we could get to know people. Apart from Guy, three more people joined, including Guy's roommate and others. We were talking for a while when Phil came up with a great idea.
“Hey, are you free this Saturday? Like 8 o'clock?” Phil asked everyone in the circle
“Yes” we replied unanimously, intrigued about what he was planning to do.
“Well, maybe we can gather in someone's house, drink some beers and pass the time” he said a little doubtful if we would like the idea
“That's a great idea, Alex and I can put the house and you can bring drinks and others the food” Guy suggested and everyone agreed. He had a Scottish accent, he hasn’t talked until now, so it was surprising.
“We can buy the beers” I announced looking at Phil, he nodded indicating that he agreed
“And I can order some pizzas with Tom” Jim said, a guy that we met there.
“So it's settled. Saturday at 8 at Guy’s flat” Phil said.
We talked for a bit more before heading back home.
Once we arrived, I looked at the time. It was quarter to 8! Phil and I were starving! Of course, we ate some food at college, but that was at midday. We were both tired because of how much we had walked, so I ordered some pizza.
About 30 minutes later, we were eating delicious pizza while watching Friends on the TV. Nothing was left, so Phil cleaned the dishes and I tidied up the living room. When he finished, he went to the bathroom to take a shower and I went to the bedroom to play the guitar and practice a little.
While practicing, I couldn’t stop thinking about today. There were so many people there, and they were only juniors, I couldn't imagine how many people went there. I cheered up, there were so many people with the same dream as me: start a band.
But at the same time, I tought, there were so many people, so many bands, with the same dream. Would I ever get famous or known enough to live out of music? Would I have to work all my life in a mid job tied to a desk?
When time hit me I looked at the clock and saw that it was 2am, I needed to be awake tomorrow at 7! I lleft my guitar on the stand and headed straight to bed.
