After They Died (on hiatus)

Kirt took out his identifier and scanned the girl. He thought it looked like a human but they were extinct, died out millions of years before we had come to Earth.

Henry tiptoed over to where Kirt stood and glared at the girl, like she might attack them when they blinked.

The identifier beeped once and Kirt looked down to see one red flashing light on.

"What does the red flashing light mean?" he asked Henry. Henry didn't even have to look to know what it meant,

"It means - wait. Did you say flashing?"

"Yep." Henry grabbed the device from the incompetent Kirt and glared at the little flashing light. Then he looked at the girl, then the light, then the girl and then the light again.

"It... it means it's an extinct life form that's not on the living database. Which is impossible because she's not extinct she's standing right here, in front of us."

"Maybe it means something else? Like a shape changer? They can be nasty." Henry shook his head adamantly and handed the identifier back to Kirt,

"I told you it means an extinct species. It's impossible, we definitely need to take it in. But we need to wait for Saxon, don't touch it. We need to wait outside the door."

"I don't think that it will hurt us..." Kirt said and he slowly started to walk towards the girl, she didn't move but a small tear ran down her cheek. She said something in another language again, "what language is that?" Kirt asked Henry.

"I've never heard it before. Get away from it and wait by the door!" Henry tugged on Kirt's arm and dragged him towards the hidden door, in the tunnel Henry pushed the door shut and there was no evidence of the hidden room.

Saxon appeared around the corner, still carrying his personal torch. He didn't ask anything unnecessary just said, "Show me." Kirt eagerly pushed open the door and let Saxon go in first.

The girl wasn't anywhere to be seen and Saxon turned around with his hands on his hips and glared at the boys, "what the bloody hell is this? What lifeform? I see a bunch of bags and a human bed, I came running down that bloody tunnel for bloo-" there was a thud and Saxon collapsed on the floor, the girl stood behind him clutching a steel pipe to her chest. For a moment everyone just stood there and stared at the collapsed body of the boy's superior. But Kirt rushed into action, he drew his blood gun and pointed it at the girl's chest, "Get up against the wall!" Henry cowered against the far wall and talked quickly to base through his radio. The girl flinched and back up a couple of steps and Kirt advanced towards her. She screamed something at them and swung the rod at Kirt's blood gun.

He fired and the red bullet shot out of the barrel, it hit her in the knee and she collapsed on the ground and screamed again. She clutched at her bloody knee and the rod clanged to the ground. Kirt advanced towards her - intending to arrest her and then stop the bleeding - but she lashed out with her good leg and Kirt had to jump away to avoid being kicked in the knee.

Kirt quickly advanced at her again and she tried to kick him again but he darted around behind her and hit her with the butt of his blood gun.

She fell, unconscious to the cold stone floor.
